I've just started using Windows 10, since Sunday afternoon. It feels so familiar, and yet new. I wish at least one half of the start bar could look more like Windows 7. :( Or perhaps I just haven't utilised it to it's full potential of convenience yet.

I'm running a heavily modified version of Windows 8.1. I spent a considerable amount of time hacking this system to get it working the way I needed. I'm holding off on upgrading right now because after testing 10 out at the office I'm concerned that a bunch of my shit will break if I update the OS.

If you want an old-school style start menu, I would definitely recommend checking out the Classic Shell package (although I'm not sure if this works on Windows 10 or not.)

As for hardware, I have these upgrades to perform (on my next paying job):
1) Three more WD Black 2 TB 7200 rpm HDDs [WD2002FAEX], to put in RAID-5.
2) Another Zotac Geforce GTX 980 Ti Amp! [ZT-90503-10P] for Two-Way SLI configuration.

I would avoid WD drives. IMO, they're very poor quality. I think Samsung drives are a lot better.

And further down the line:
3) Possibly a i7-5930K or i7-5960X Processor, because they have 40 lanes, which I'll need for a higher bandwidth Three-Way SLI.
4) A third Zotac Geforce Gtx 980 Ti Amp! [ZT-90503-10P], for SLI.
5) Maybe a Samsung SM951 512GB M.2 PCI-e ACHI SSD [SSD-MZ-HPV512HDGL-0000], to replace my Samsung SM951 256GB M.2 SSD [MZHPV256HDGL-00000].
6) Some SSDs, to go in their own RAID configuration, separate from my HDDs. This will be for faster mass storage, like game installations, whereas the HDD RAID config can be for archiving huge files.

Or maybe I'll realise there's a better way of doing things.

Sounds like that'd be a pretty beast setup, but do you really need that much power? Seems a little overkill to me, unless you plan on provisioning a system for industrial-grade video editing or 3d animation... If you're just building a gaming rig you probably won't need anywhere near that much power. JS!

Heavily modified version of Windows 8.1 with a custom Aero Glass theme, the Classic Shell package and a custom-skinned Rainmeter running Cygwin64 with MinTTY. My desktop background is a photograph of the Horsehead Nebula.

It's still Windows, but Cygwin provides an entire repository of tons of Windows ports of all the core *nix utilities and much more. MinTTY is a UNIX-style terminal emulator for Windows optimized for use with Cygwin.

Although, I was remotely connected to an actual Linux server in the terminal window on the left side of the screen and I usually spend a lot of time working on remote servers in general. That's the primary reason why I have Cygwin (aside from the fact that it also provides me with a shell that I'm much more comfortable with and is vastly superior to Windows' native cmd.exe and Powershell)

Gettin' in dat holiday spirit. Spooky scary skeletons and whatnot. If I didn't have my games neatly tucked away in a folder they'd take up most of the damn screen.

Shame Win10 doesn't allow for a different wallpaper to be set on each screen. It's either plaster the same image on each monitor or 'Span'. Span works well enough for me, I guess.

The main reason I have HWMonitor right there on the taskbar is that I'm a little paranoid about this machine's temps. Also the clock speed has been fluctuating rapidly lately, not sure what's up with that. It's rock solid though, went 20 days without a reboot and I only shut it off to clean it.
