Yes, we seem to be having a rare active moment, although not one filled with good submissions. I would like to remind all of our members not to rush through the voting process and make sure they all vote fairly and as they see fit for the movie/game's score, not their unrelated prediction of its outcome.

Just posting about the many University students posting their animations.

I wonder if the teacher assigned a task to see whether they could get their work onto the site. Guess we will be seeing their submissions improve every semester.

Personally, I don't believe it, and even if I did, it would still be fishy since all too often admission into NG requires convincing the masses that the movie is good, before they watch it.

I'm sure it's just a stupid excuse to let some harmless stupid entries pass, then switch the file to something more annoying.

Considering since my last post, there has been a lot more., I think there is a lot of buggery afoul.

I'm sure it's just a stupid excuse to let some harmless stupid entries pass, then switch the file to something more annoying.

The main question is raised, who has enough time on their hands to organise such a thing? Also, who has enough time to make multiple accounts and make individual flashes, simple enough to get by? There are a lot of sad people in the world.

Maybe its a bandwagon? One user created a few accounts to submit shitty flashes to, and other users found that they all passed because he used the excuse "I created this in Uni as a project for bla bla blah"....So they just kinda followed the bandwagon.

Its a shame I missed today's burst of activity on the portal, I would have liked to have seen that. Thanks to my glitch in firefox though, I can't see the numbers beside the submissions which is strange.

I thought it was normal until I saw Exodus' post above. I need to get that fixed really :\

I think the whole "missing numbers" thing happened when they made the wide layout. As far as I know, it only happens on Firefox. I think the staff knows about it (I'm pretty sure that several people have complained about it), but I guess it's not that important.

Yeah, just after the layout was put in place I had the same problem. Yet then I tweaked or maybe updated Firefox and they came back again. S'quite strange really :\

Speaking of which, wtf is up with all these "school assignments" as of recent? Surely there are better sites to post your flash skills, right? You would think that Adobe has a portal somewhere they would allow users to submit their flash, right? So why choose NG?

Well, if I had to take an educated guess at the matter, it could just be a bunch of friends that started out, or a professor that is using Newgrounds as a graphics design testbed or something. But really, who cares? The way I see it, it's going to make Newgrounds more active, and it will give these artists a chance to get some feedback and improve.

I don't really consider it annoying or anything, as it isn't like they are actually spamming the Portal. After all, anyone is free to use Newgrounds to try to get their Flash noticed, so why not a whole class? Besides, if it really is a bunch of spammers that are trying to screw around and play a sympathy card with their class grade or whatever, they'll be called out sooner or later. I think the large influx of flash just happened over time because they were all submitted during the ebb hours of Newgrounds, when most people are sleeping in the US. If it happened during the day during peak hours, we wouldn't have noticed it as much.

At 10/12/09 12:04 PM, Lizzardis wrote: Maybe its a bandwagon? One user created a few accounts to submit shitty flashes to, and other users found that they all passed because he used the excuse "I created this in Uni as a project for bla bla blah"....So they just kinda followed the bandwagon.

I'd say you're on to something here. There is obviously some form of a bandwagon effect going on here, as some people are probably trying to get a free submission past judgment figuring they can carry along the wave here. Who knows. All we can do is speculate and see what develops.

Its a shame I missed today's burst of activity on the portal, I would have liked to have seen that. Thanks to my glitch in firefox though, I can't see the numbers beside the submissions which is strange.

I just noticed that as well. Hell, I thought numbers were gone since the redesign... :-/ I noticed however that the numbers do appear in Safari, so i think it is Firefox-specific. But yes, disabling Adblock Plus does not make it better. Oh well. It's a minor annoyance at best. There usually isn't enough submissions on Newgrounds these days to really require numbering to figure stuff out.

Unless your name is DoD and you go to bed every night fantasizing what you said during the day was at least 1/5 true.

I must say I'm disappointed so many of those submissions passed without having contained content worth keeping on NG, but the battle goes on.

Through all these flashes, some of them are swap-ins like this one.

I'll PM Wade soon, but there are probably more going on with the masses of flashes today.

I noticed that there was a lot of school projects flashes under judgment today, I saw a few and they were not bad. I was curious they were submitted it was early in the morning Newgrounds time when I saw them still most of them were not breaking any rules. I saw that flash worth keeping a watch out for the user. The link I posted was removed thank god it was gross what some of these spammers submit. There has been some good stuff submitted recently. I watched the flash called Dare not bad at all. The portal been very active today.

So basically it's the same old, same old in the portal, with a decent amount of school flash projects submitted to the portal, since it is the end of a school quarter already. Honestly, I haven't seen much from the DD in a while, or any other group for that matter.

Anyone else feel like Newgrounds is becoming slower and slower as the days roll on by, or is it just me? it feels like you're doing the same thing, over and over again every single day, like a harmonious routine that we've all become accustomed to. The only thing that seems to change is the mood of the General forum in the BBS, and it's usually full of idiots who rip off the latest news.

Well, the majority of them seem to be valid, but yeah, I think it has to do with this school project crap going on.

Yeah, that's what makes me think this stuff is legitimate. I mean, it could very well be some class or just a bunch of college classmates that decided to screw around on Newgrounds. Hell, my college classmates all screwed around on NG in the Comp Sci computer lab, could just be a bunch of people that know each other.

Yes, the Portal's been quite active. Not many fileswaps though. I sure as hell got a bunch of B/P today...I'm wondering what my daily total will be. I usually hover around 60 B/P a day, but all of these submissions will probably give that average a nice boost. Let's just hope this is in fact something on the line and we're not just getting suckered into protecting some massive file-swapping campaign coming up...

I know many of you don't visit the audio portal much, but I tend to see college assignments or other type of assignments for audio every week or so. I tend to review at least 10 audio a week and more times or not you find one like that. Most of the time they are good too so I believe they are legitimate.

It is a swap. It was alright before the swap, and under the description, they (the spam crew members) were pretending to be a college student who made that flash for his computer class.

It's certainly a change in stance - if it were a spam attack, no Blam points would be had, as there would be a load of douches mass voting these submissions through. This particular wave did not bear that hallmark.

I'm not saying that there isn't anything sinister behind this, I'm just stating that there could be a change of tactics going through the masses.

It happened when I updated Firefox too. Perhaps there's just a communications error between the program and server.

It's a better ratio than usual - you can't turn the tables overnight, after all. Otherwise my Blam list would suddenly melt down with the amount of activity there :P

This whole situation makes me think of how much NG has changed. Flashes nowadays have the benefit of the doubt. Almost every flash makes it through judgement. I remember back in the day everyone used to watch UJ flashes with their cursor hovering over the vote 0 button. Haha. It's not a bad change I suppose, but it's different. :P

That's a good point. I'm thinking at this point it's three groups of people:

1) One nucleus of people that made a bunch of submissions as a joke, for a class, etc.
2) A bunch of people that actually made flash for a class earlier on and figured "hey, if they can get a flash on NG for their schoolwork, so can i!"
3) Spammers that decided to try to sneak a few flash and fileswap

Oh well, just another NG fad that will come and go, just like Barney Bunch fileswaps. I remember trying to track the "decently good" flash they used as a facade for that stuff.

This is very true. Getting my own Flash on NG was like some huge stroke of luck. It's all but meaningless, but I at least concentrated on making the stuff not look like it was complete garbage. I think plenty of people were submitting holiday Flash at the time so people were a bit more forgiving. Of course, even 2005 wasn't as bad as 2001-2003, when NOTHING got on the Portal, practically.

That's also why I still have such a high Blam count compared to a Protect count. Times have changed for sure.

The description is the only thing that's changed. The flash itself is the same now as it was when it was under judgement.

However, it's gone off the front page now, so no-one's gonna care about it, file-swap or not. Wade tends to only delete swaps that are either blatantly obvious (i.e. he gets dozens of PMs about the same flash), or swapped to illegal shit anyway.

Technically it is against the rules, since one of the submission agreement rules states:
"Personal attacks towards another flash author will result in account deletion."

I guess that means their serious about people making flashes just to insult other users. Most of these things get blammed anyway, however, so I dunno about flagging those.
