After going through around 15,000 reviews that were flagged as abusive by our users I have deleted the bad ones and cleared the non-abusive reviews marked as such. Once this was done I lifted the review bans of 2,171 users. These users will now be able to submit reviews again and their reviews will be visible to the public. They may have abusive reviews that weren't flagged and weren't removed.

I encourage everyone to continue to flag reviews as abusive if they violate our review guidelines.

Also for those users who were banned, hopefully you have learned a lesson and will review our guidelines more carefully as I'm sure some of you don't want to be banned for several months again.

We are working on improving our review moderation system which will give our review moderators more tools to help deal with abusive reviews and users who violate our review guidelines.

That's cool I lost like 2 reviews mostly reviews when I first signed up.

Good to hear people will have their bans lifted Wade. I know some people that have been banned for a while now and I certainly think now is a good time to lift those bans. Also, I'm surprised there's more banned reviewers than there were last time.

the users that were review banned probably don't even care about the portal anymore. i think that being banned for months is too much. sure, they need to learn their lesson, but i think it's excessive. i shouldn't tell you what to do though.

i think the PM system would be a problem. sure, it would be convenient to be able to contact other users, but some users might decide to spam others with personal messages. there would have to be PM moderators for this system. with invisionfree, there's a warning gauge. everytime a user does something wrong, you can add a warning to his/her gauge. i think this system would be better and less problematic than the PM system. that's just my opinion though.

Makes sense. But then there would be the users who just ignore the warnings 'said review mod' sends to them. Thus where the ban clubs come in.

The idea isn't over due, the idea was there years ago. We've just been to busy with more important projects and working on the review mod system has been on the back burner, and may still be on the back burning for a little while longer.

I know liljim doesn't want to hear the words "text search" again when it comes to new Newgrounds features, but I wonder if there's an automated process that could be implemented to look for key abusive words in reviews. If the reviews have words that are considered 'flagged', the review is automatically deleted. It wouldn't completely automate the process, but it might help remove some of those obviously offensive reviews...

This is Newgrounds.com 99% of all reviews should not be there in the first place and that counts for everyone. Reviews are not used to give constructive critisisim or anything as people would like. But are only used to say "OMFG TEHIS WAS TEH BOMB MAEK ANOTHER PLSPLSPLSPLSPLS!!!" or "I´m bored, this is boring" or "What are theese clocks they´ve got clocks I dont get it WTF_??_" I myself know my reviews are pointless, might as well just say "Yo, I loved it, cant wait for your next movie" just to leave my mark. Or "I didn´t like it" Isn´t these things reflected in your vote?

Very rarely can you find genuinely helpful reviews with actual text which is actually relevant. These people that were banned were obviously banned for a reason. They dont care if they are banned or unbanned. Unbanning them just means they can flame again and not be of any merit to NG at all again.

I propose that only people above level 10 can leave reviews. I think this ought to help even if only a little. And also leave those that were banned as they were. A lot of them are most likely alt accounts anyway.

Just speaking as one who´s been in and out of NG for 5 years, cynical I know but I can only say what I feel from reading a lot of reviews.
