ArtistJ's opinions on Piracy: Do pirate software!

A lot of times I hear the saying "free comes with a dick right up your ass" I disagree with this statement. In fact I think free shit is what life is all about.

I mean, think of prostitution for example. A girl can fuck anybody and its considered fine. Maybe not morally, but in the eves of the government it is. Sure she may be deemed a slut but if she charges for that fucking session, which she probably enjoys no less.. then she is a hooker and that is considered wrong.

So free is the way our government set shit up to be. People need to come to the realization there is a huge difference between what’s moral and what’s legal. That’s why I think its slightly hypocritical people to bitch that pirating software, games, and music is wrong. Its not that immoral since charging for intangible things that better society merely creates a larger social class distinction. In the words of a great Korean Philosopher “One mans knowledge should benefit all men”

But since I can argue from both sides of the bar, simply from an economic standpoint, Downloading games is important because the Japanese make too much cash off American imports. We can’t get the physical items like a Sony receiver for free… but we can get something less tangible like a Japanese Rom cartridge for free. And every little bit we can take helps avoid our economy from going into further debt to the Japs.

Software like Microsoft Office 2003 should also be pirated! Why? IT’S OUR MORAL DUTY! How you ask? Well this is how it works.

If you don't download or pirate programs such as this one, you are the one who is getting fucked. Why? Because you as a citizen of this fine country are going to pay for that product anyway, and since everyone’s not going to develop morals overnight ya had better jump on the band wagon because contrary to popular belief one person can not make a difference.

Everyone pirates these programs and that’s why they are getting so expensive. And that increase in cost causes more people to pirate those products, be cause a lot of these products are important and well, it wouldn’t be right to just let those who are wealthy have them. We all deserve access to these tools. In fact, most schools demand you own a personal computer at home, with most of the latest software. Now we have to spend at least a grand on the computer, are we going to spend another thousand to get software? I think not.

So this is where those schools that demand we have these technologies come into play. Schools are monitored closely by the government and hence have to have all their software licensed and since this software’s price goes up the schools need more cash. Now perhaps they wouldn’t need so much cash if they spent the cash they had more wisely but that’s a separate rant. Anyhow, schools get their money from taxes.

So taxes will rise. And we, the citizens pay these takes. In fact, a quarter of the money I’ve made in my life went to taxes. So we all pay for software in the end. And as for music, it has been taking many hits ever since the days of Napster for copyright infringement. Kazza is under the hot spotlight now, and dumb college kids who don't know how to properly cover their footprints are being caught for file sharing crimes. These kids always have several gigabytes of files all poorly managed.

These morons are caught because they leave all their files in the same folder they were downloaded into and leave their whole hard drive open without any form of firewall. Personally I think its important to change your IP address often. But really… if you weren’t expected to own mp3’s we would not have portable mp3 players. They sell them in 30gb capacity’s regularly now. (I myself, own a 60 gigabyte model.) So you can understand how much that is… I have 650 albums on my hard drive that consist of 25GB!

So that should express the sheer amount of space that can fit on one of these 30GBdevices. Nobody shy of a radio station owns that many albums, so obviously if these devices are readily available to the public it should be expected, if not encouraged to download massive amounts of audio files. Besides, the only people you are stealing from are the record executives who do very little already.

Musicians make most of their money off concert tickets anyway. Even many musicians, like Nick Hexum of 311 for example, admit to downloading music, so obviously it is advocated by the musicians themselves. Also, by downloading tunes you can get your albums before they are released and even unreleased material! Why wouldn’t you download music?

My basic Point is that no matter what the media you are acquiring, software, games, or music its ok. You should be! If only to keep the line between rich and poor more distinctive. People who make these products are always going to make money. And if they have to have the surplus salary decreased, GOOD! Because people who are passionate will always do what they do, and they are the only ones who deserve credit.

Punks like the kids in little hacker alliances will always steal software, and use that software to design games for free, listening to music they got for free, which was recorded by artists who would play music weather they were famous or they worked at burger king just because they enjoy making music. And that’s how it is, and everyone should like it, and quit thinking life is all about the amount of money you have. Its about the skills you have and the lives you touch. Its that simple.

So let's make them even more expensive for the rest of us that are honest? Great argument. :|

I know of a few people that have gone out, spent hard earned money on a game, only to be unable to play it because some asswad punk uses warez, and got the key for it. Yeah, that's real fair.

When you pirate software, you aren't just screwing the company, you're screwing the everyday guy that spends money to have a legitimate program.

Mp3's were never meant to amass huge databases of files. They were meant to transfer a format. You could upload your CD collection that you bought into one easy to use device. P2p completely ruined that concept.

Piracy is stealing. It is wrong. The excuse that 'everybody does it, so should you' is asinine and childish. If everybody started punching themselves in the crotch every hour, would you start doing it?

BTW, fun E video. W00t!

I wholeheartedly disagree. The only reason why anyone else is successful in this country is because either they were born "well to do" or if they did start on the bottom, they lied, cheated, stole, raped and pillaged their way to get themselves to the top.

the idea that 'everybody does it, so should you'is practical, because as you pointed out also, the guy who does'nt gets fucked.

to think that you or anyone you can influence society as a whole with your example of being a "fair" person is simply impractical, idealistic, and dilusional.

Jesus couldnt even do that.

Yeah, the people that make them. Why shouldn't people be able to spend their money on what they want, and not get robbed by some jerk with a sense of 'I shouldn't have to pay for it, I am poor, wah?'

Wow, thanks for the insult. I was born poor. I worked very very hard to get where I am. I got here by honest means, by wo,rking hard, saving my money and being honest. You are an ass to assume that everyone that has a little bit of money is a cheat.

by the way, i was ro-sham-bo champion in highschool.

Huh? WTF is 'ro-sham-bo?'

You know, maybe if people didn't have your pessimistic attitude, the world would be a little better. Instead, we are overrun with people like you, with a sense of entitlement. Nobody owes you anything in this country. Either work for it, or shut up. If you get screwed along the way, it's because you aren't carefel, or you simply don't care what happens to your money.

People shgould spend money on Physicaly tangable objects. I belive someone should bey the harddrive, not the information on it.

you know i respect you, and i too have worked very hard to get where i am at, and had saved 80% of all the money ive made in the last 7 years until college. I never "screwed up", in fact, i played all the shity cards i was dealt very well. The fact of the matter is, this country isnt as much of a free nation as they like to make it seem. And i have a much more socialist ideal toward how things should be. just like they say in Korea. "ones man's knowlege should benifit all men"

the question that it all comes down to is:

were Robbin Hood and his men bad guys?

I used to have a save the world mentality, based off the government in places view of whats good and bad, right and wrong. Luckily, I snaped out of it when i realized its either fuck or get fucked on this plannet. if you cant beat 'em join em. In that mentality, i joined robbin hoods men in knottingham forrest.

I dont belive in gathering and amassing posesions for myself to glutton on, but rather to give back to the community. i dont have a 'greedy additude' as you'd like to portray this theft.

by the way, i was ro-sham-bo champion in highschool.
Huh? WTF is 'ro-sham-bo?'

A ro-sham-bo is where someone kicks you in the nuts and if you dont fall you get to kick them, and it goes on until someone falls. I dont go down after one kick, but it does dammage your junk and ya pee blood if they get you real good. its not a safe past time.

I can understand, and even accept that we just have a difference of opinion on how things are distributed. I just didn't appreciate being called a thief, liar, and cheat.

I don't have a 'save the world' attitude, either, just one of being honest in a capitalist society. I would hate to try and sell something, and be shortchanged, ya know? So I try to do right as far as I can see, and hope that it comes back around. :)

P.S. I wouldn't plan on having any kids. You're probably sterile by now, and I'm not being an ass, just concerned. You should have that looked at. OUCH.

Agreed.

and no, i wasnt calling you a thief, liar, and cheat, although many would consider me one on some par, and i dont associate those as always being bad things anymore, depending on the overall motive.

ive been shortchanged before, ill be shortchanged again, i contribute to the shortchangeing of others, and the world has never been that cut and dry. :/
