Of course it influences content because a bigger market has a greater potential for greater profits(which is all companies care about), so if you are a software or film maker the best way to do that is to have a low rating so parents will let their kids buy it .

my earlier post was a response toa post by, "deadlock32" the 4 different colorred people works really well. kudos for that idea. i really like it. i second the thought to actually consider it.
First, i'd like to note that O- Old Skool is invented by Randy Solemn of VGDC.com. i'm pretty sure you don't want HIS eternal wrath on your rear.
The ideas previously posted are interesting. However, you need something original, something that pertains to Newgrounds - possibly the trademark Tank. Each driver in the Icon could hold up a letter. Or, better yet, color-code the tanks and have a little scene for each four ratings. For Everyone, you could have a few green figures sit atop the tank and play board games or something. For Teen, you could have someone yellow trying to drive the tank with their body shoved down the hole in the top and their legs flailing outside. Mature could have a red tank with a guy sticking his head down the barrel of the tank, and for Adult, you might just put a big smoldering crater as the icon. As for the names, maybe they should pertain to sanity statuses? From all the crazy stuff on Newgrounds, a rating could go:
Sane
Unstable
Manic
Psychopath

As for the new rating system I prefer the first set, although two is both amusing and insulting to people, but #1 definitely. It's practical and can be taken seriously by new users or browsers to the site.

While I don't normally post anything on these, I think Joey's Icons are very good. I'd suggest those are used, or the idea of a thermometer was suggested earlier, the higher the red, the "worse" the video. Good luck guys.
