Newgrounds makes use of a content delivery network called CloudFlare, which is in the news today for a bug that has compromised user data on various websites.

You can read about it here and here and view a list of potentially compromised sites here.

Newgrounds does not use any of the three affected CloudFlare features so none of our data should have been at risk. HOWEVER it is never a bad idea to update your passwords on occasion so today is a good day to do it, due to the number of sites affected.

Global Audio Licensing Options

On Monday @liljim launched our new Global Audio Licensing Options form, which allows you to set or disable a Creative Commons license for all of your audio submissions in one swoop. If you choose to not allow commercial use of your music via the Creative Commons license, we have a secondary option where you can grant use to web games and animation that may potentially generate ad revenue. This option allows musicians to make their music freely available to web creators (largely students and hobbyists) without having to worry about their music being used in a hit Steam or Mobile game without their consent.

If you are using Audio Portal music in your web game or animation, please share any potential NG revenue with the musicians! First credit the musicians or individual songs via the credits form, then visit the revenue sharing form to set their share of revenue. This will be combined as a single form when the project system switches to the new layout.

REMINDER: Don't use music you don't have rights to! We are unable to host unlicensed music and will have to remove your movie or game if it breaks the rules.

I like this. I figured an announcement was due soon. There was already some fear-mongering among some of my own acquaintances, so I hope this post clears it up.

We're on the list because we're a CloudFlare client - it is a list of potentially afflicted sites but we (knock on wood) shouldn't be afflicted because we don't use the three services that had the issue.

You seem not to be allowed to catch a breath. You made the monthly goal in January, then GD happened, now a bug in a cloud supplier.

On the other hand, I saw the tag "newgrounds" on twitter quite a few times lately. Thats good! And the new audio form sounds fair and straight forward correct.

NG ist still my daily dose of inspiration. I can only recommend. And I do. Hope some people stick.

Got to hear Newgrounds is safe. Better not mess with a website that uses a tank as their identification tag anyways.

The point of newgrounds is to share freedom and creativity, including sex and violence. There's a whole section for that, and you don't have to be apart of it if you don't want to. The site also has filters, and they're strict about the content filters. Don't we shouldn't have it just because you don't want it. NG is already a great place for teens.

I assume that most of us here are adults, but I'm saying that being a long time member that is an adult now, but joined when I was a teen. I was very big into porn when I was a teen with a lot of places to get it, but I wouldn't say this place was one of them. A lot porn to go around, but most of it here isn't that good.

As for violence, people LOVE hate. They love violence. We can shame sex all day, but violence isn't going anywhere anytime soon! "Censorship is like saying an adult can't have a steak because a baby can't eat it." I'll have my steak, and you drink your milk.

Speaking of creative freedom, since when have people not been allowed to have other people's music in their flashes? I remember a time when music videos were big around here, and a far few still make music videos today. Or is this something that's always been a rule?

Awesome news about the audio form. Any chance you could make it possible to both check 'Artists and developers may freely use this for their web-based games and movies' and 'Please contact me if you would like to use this in a project', though? If it's not a web-based movie/game I'd probably still like to allow use, but would like to know about it first.

As for Cloudlfare, according to some people it's best to change password pretty much everywhere, regardless of if a site's affected or no. The leak's been active four months, after all. Good to hear NG wasn't one of the directly affected places though. Times like this I'm really happy to have 2FA on most of the most important accounts...

Using unlicensed music has always been frowned on - it was a big motivation for making the Audio Portal in 2003. Recent legal issues have made us crack down a lot harder, though.

I'm sorry but not every site has to be a safe space and I hope to god Newgrounds won't be. This site is suppose to have a bunch of freedom and creativity to share to the public but here you are, people like you are making it into a safe space. This actually makes me wish the newground content was like in the early 2000s, that shit could have been too much for you. Now it's just all gone and barley gory anymore, stuff like this and our rating comments have turn into "blame this piece of crap" into "blame this pls" cause of people like you can't handle "crap". If you can't handle the stuff in here then you don't have to, it doesn't mean you have to make newgrounds into youtube where swearing is discourage in there.

Tom, don't listen to these people. Just keep the creativity unlimited.

I ran out of funny ideas in this signature so I copy this to be funny.

It's not reasonable to constantly check if the authors changed their mind on the license of something we used, and then to constantly change every game and submission on every website submitted because it stopped being free. So basically, if it was once free, we can always claim that the use was from back then, and it remains free forever. That's why some websites don't allow licenses to change: you submit something, it's a permanent contribution. Otherwise, no one can sleep at night thinking that one of the thousand songs or effects used had it's license randomly changed. It would make the "resources" extremely untrustworthy and a bait to get sued a few years later for when the license changes, becoming illegal to use it. Everything on Newgrounds submitted prior to a certain date of when changes were introduced was originally Creative Commons and would forever be, regardless of authors taking down their songs and charging money for them now.

At least, that's what makes sense.

The whole idea of Newgrounds is to make people free to add whatever they want, and sorry to say that, but if you want a place where you can see everything being peaceful, with no pornography or violence, you should get of the internet, 'cus this is what you will get sonner or later. Also turn off the TV, 'cus the news and sows are full of this, and don't go out there, reality is pretty much like that too.
Trust me, Newgounds is one of the best places that you could be on the internet, we try to make a good comunity here, and most of the people cooperate. This site gives complete freedom to post whatever you want, say whatever you want. Sometimes it seems that you can do this on any forum, but as soon as you post something that a white wig doesn't like, you're out, but not here. It has it's price.
If you want to pretend the world is beautyfull, you can use the filters. Just don't become like @JigglypuffClient and start to hatepost everything that you are against.

In case any of you were too lazy to look at the affected websites/applications, the important ones are Reddit, Discord, and possibly this website, but it's kinda my opinion on which ones are important to me, so it's a good idea to look at the list.

And if you are replying to this saying "What list?", then you either don't care about your personal info or you don't care about reading an important thread.

Thanks for warning the entire website Tom, I don't want anyone to get hacked, and I honestly don't know anyone who would.

first of all, thank you mr tom for the heads up! :)
i will follow your advice, and i hope that NG will stay strong through all those problems...

also,

At 2/24/17 06:07 PM, YoonseoChoiChoi wrote: I want newgrounds without bloody violence and Adults only games, movie or art. If it's solved, Newgrounds will be a good place for the Teenagers. (Like me! I am 15 year old! )

im sorry yoonseo, but i DONT agree with you.
turning this wonderful site of art+freedom into a ''safe space'', is a stupid thing to do, and quite frankly, its a move that will kill the whole meaning of ''everything by everyone.'', which is a true expression of artistic+creative freedom.

believe it or not, this site used to have many wild, CRAZY movies+games, and many years ago, NG's motto was ''the problems of the future, today!''. it featured pop-culture parodies, many sex jokes, violent(or sexy)games, and the infamous assasin games, which made fun of contemporary celebs in various ways.(most of them in a violent way)

sure, people grow up, and eventually NG matured into a more ''well-behaved'' version of itself, and it transformed from ''the problems of the future, today!'' into ''everything by everyone'', and the violent assasin games+the sex games got overshadowed by the more calm, fresh artistic creations of the new wave of artists... (or even by the old artists of NG, who decided to change their movies/games materials a bit...)
things changed, but NG stayed true to its roots and kept all those old, violent/sexy/adult movies+games.
now its the people's choice to watch them if they want.

bottom line: NG has changed, and it's a more mature, elegant, diverse and well behaved enviroment.
but to ask from NG to get rid of its past? now THIS is stupid.
you dont like violent movies+games? dont watch them.
you dont like sexy/adult movies/games? k, dont watch them.
you should come in here to leave your mark, and to have fun, you shouldn't come in here to change everything into a more ''politically correct'' version of the site; this would kill both the site's originality, and its freedom.
it would be wrong, and stupid.

so yeah, i agree with Nekoyoujo, Thegreathorn, and Xuvero. they have good points, and you should listen to them.
if you truly love this place, dont try to change it in a bad way (by removing things that you dont like), but change it in a GOOD way: CREATE ART. draw things, make music, post flash movies/games...
make a positive change, instead of ruining the site for everyone else.

plus, one day, when you grow up, you might even like the dark side of NG. just saying...

ok. so, how can i know if i can use a famous song or not?
and, can i use a song if i credit the artist? (i always give credit to the artists).

also, i agree with thephenomenon below:

At 2/25/17 11:23 AM, ThePhenomenon wrote: It's not reasonable to constantly check if the authors changed their mind on the license of something we used, and then to constantly change every game and submission on every website submitted because it stopped being free. At least, that's what makes sense.

i agree with you 100%. its stupid of them to change the licence/fair use laws everyday, because it destroys creative+artistic potential, and it limits the artist's options as to WHAT music to use for a specific movie.
and lets face it, if we added a popular song in our movies, it would be free advertising for those morons, so its really their loss.

i am honestly very sad with this stupid law, because it limits the sources of funny/creative use of music in a movie...
i mean, for example, how can i emphasize a character's badass quality, when i can no longer play ''bad to the bone'' in my movie?
things become limited, and the whole point of using music as an artform gets lost.
sure, the NG music-portal has some great artists, such as maestrorage, paragonX9, sean hodges(from the madness saga, his music is epic), but the (music)choices are now narrower and more limited.
