I'm getting a drawing tablet for christmas
I'm really excited to animate.
Should I wait until I have a drawing tablet or start now since I'm still kinda good with a mouse?

If it's not straining your hand or anything, you shouldn't wait for Christmas. For now, try to just experiment a bit with things until you DO get it.
But regardless, it's totally up to you.
Just ask to get it now, Christmass is just for family gathering anyway.

lol you ChristmASS
A mouse is literally the worst drawing tool ever. I would scratch images on the side of a cave before using a mouse to draw. Getting good at a mouse is a useless endeavor as you will never be able to do what a tablet can.
What you can do up until then is really familiarize yourself with the program you are using.
Agreed with ChillyCheese. It'll be infinitely more frustrating, and even if you're able to get something done, it won't really reflect your skill. It's as uncomfortable as drawing with a chisel on a stone tablet, if you ask me.
If you do want to do something while you wait, you can:
- look up tutorials for the program you'll be using and take notes on the functionalities
- work on some character designs to animate once you have your tablet
- do some basic paper and pencil animations, like the bouncing ball and the pendulum
- start gathering resources to study animation (like the Animator's Survival Kit)
- storyboard any longer scenes you have in mind
Great news! I'm gonna get the drawing tablet very soon
