Which DAW do u use? 2016-09-10 16:55:24

Hey everyone!

My question is, which DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) do you use? And why?
I use Fruity Loops 12. I started with a demo version of Fruity Loops 8, i've been a real Fl studio lover since then. I like the workflow. It's easy to understand. In the time I studied Sounddesign, we used Pro Tools 11. Pro tools is great for audio recording and mixing, but I personally don't like the workflow, especially for dance music.

Now your turn :-)

fl 12 like you. i do also have pro tools first and on another pc, i have access to studio one, but never really used that.
how are you on fl? what kind of composing process do you have on it? same question for everyone actually.

nowadays, i started to do everything in midi and once im satisfied, i start changing the sounds and begin the mixing process.

I do all my productions in midi. I usualy start drawing some chords, adding a melody and a bassline. After that, I work on the rest of the arrangement. Intro, breaks, drop etc. Mixing is what I do through the whole process :-). That's what works for me.

FL Studio 11 is good enough, I still know people that use FL Studio 10.

well my problem is cuz Kontakt only work well with 64 bit FL Studio, and the current latest 64 bit is only on FL 11. Soon I'll move all my production to Bitwig or Renoise, but for now FL Studio is my ride.

Whatever works for you! :-)

FL 11 and Audacity, cuz I'm a simple guy, I guess.

I have used fruity loops since 7. I started with Jeskola Buzz in 2006. I have a lot of songs dedicated to fruity loops, most specifically "I use Fruity Loops"... lol
My latest track has a granulized voice of the FL speech synth saying "who the fuck uses fruity loops"

I love FL and always have, thought the cheesy face of it, the nerdy techy style, though it is a little topped out in 12 (I'm still using 11.), I only use FL now only because I've used FL for a very very long time.

Fl Studio 12. I kinda prefer certain aspects of 11, but 12 now has that sick visualizer so I'm sticking with it for now (even though I never use it). On the very rare occasion I need to record something I use audacity because I'm cheap.

I'm Cubase through and through. I did an internship at a recording studio and got it for free, so...yeah!

I'm happy with it mostly for the interface which I'm now used to and the native capability for both mixing and mastering.

I use GarageBand in order to do complex compositions and say "ahah, I did it with the simplest software you sucker".
But isn't it like the 5th thread about it ? :3

Wow !

Okay.

Over the past six going on seven years or so Reason, currently ugpraded to version 9 a short while back.

The primary "why" would be that it emulates a hardware rack enviroment which clicks better with me then a program with wholly abstract logic dictating workflow, a secondary motivation would be that it's basic mixer got replaced with an ssl desk emulation back in version 6 which is so good that if one cannot get a decent mix out of it the problem is located in front of the computer.

I've had Ableton as a secondary program for some time ( a gift from Wandschrank who swears by it ) but i never got any significant mileage out of that, just the occasional vst sampling and even that's something i don't bother with anymore so it collects virtual dust.

Reaper all the way! Its professional grade software that is like $50 as long as you're making under around $20,000 from music, which for the majority of us here is everyone :')
They have constant updates (every week or so) and it really has just been getting better and better for me.

FL Studio 12 and Logic Pro X. I have Pro Tools 12 but it's no good for MIDI, my primary method of composition, compared to the other two.

I use Steinberg Cubase Pro 8.5, because I find it has the best MIDI workflow.

Wow I'm actually a bit surprised no one has mentioned Ableton Live (except for the one ex ableton live guy) but that's what I use, first time I used it, the entire UI clicked for me, I understood EVERYTHING almost immediately. And I never looked back. However, recently FL 12 had been lookin nice, so Imma give it another go.
