2nd EU Referendum Petition 2016-06-24 07:35:25

Someone started a petition for parliament to consider a 2nd EU Referendum. If you're a UK citizen and you want a 2nd chance I'd suggest signing this. I doubt anything will happen, but it's worth a try.

I never said I agreed/disagreed with this petition, but I feel like I'd be doing a disservice if I didn't let people know.

The vote has already been cast. I see no problems with the voting process that would warrant another referendum. At this point it's just damage control.

A total of 33,551,983 votes were counted in yesterday's referendum vote.

In the United Kingdom, 46,501,241 people are eligible to vote.

The total population of the United Kingdom is 63,181,775.

Exactly 26,033 ballots were rejected from the count for various reasons, typically legibility.

The abstainer population is 12,923,225.

A total of 12,949,258 eligible voters did not have their voices heard in yesterday's referendum.

The UK will remain in the EU a further 2 years before these changed begin to take place officially. Within that timeframe, nearly 2 million Britons will become eligible to vote by age. These are 15-going-on-16-, 16-, and 17-year-olds as well as immigrants seeking permanent residency for whose lives these changes will have the most impact.

That makes at least 15 million. And we aren't even beginning to include the non-Briton long term resident immigrant or EU member state migrant population. There are several moderators and regular users of the BBS who are a part of that group. Depending on methodology, the group can be anywhere from several million to 31 million strong. These are people who contribute to the British economy, the public purse, and the prestige of the nation. They are also the ones for whom this vote mattered the most.

The difference between the Leave and Exit votes tallied was 1,269,501. That is either 0.1%, 0.08%, or 0.04% of the real unspoken vote, depending on how open you are to foreign-born residents and young voters.

Just an 02er.

No need to panic. It hasnt even been a day yet
And scots will likely get over it within a few months, they just need it to sink in and i think they will move on like the rest of them.

I'm more thinking about the fact that the majority of people who voted leave were 65 or over.
How many of those will die in the next 2 years? What sense does it make to give votes to people who aren't even going to be alive to see the result?

I say we have another, final referendum at the point of exit, 2 years from now. In that time, we can not only see what proportion of voters have literally died off, but hear some of the actual plans and negotiations for what the alternative would really be. If said plans / demographics no longer paint an EU exit in a favourable light, it really shouldn't be gone ahead with based on decisions made 2 years ago, especially if those decisions turn out to be based on false promises.

You have no idea.

Realtalk though it's summer and either I stay awake all night listening to the neighbours dog or I go to sleep with the windows closed and wake up feeling gross and sweaty
