I don't trust meeting people online.
I tried that once in high school when I was still using myspace. It wasn't as bad as you'd think, but it was hilariously underwhelming and awkward.
The term "catfishing" comes to mind.
For some people it works...one of my current friends is about to celebrate a year with a chick he's very happy he met, and they seem like a healthy couple for each other. But usually the failures in casual encounters wind up on "StraightWhiteBoysTexting" because of their embarrassingly forward and desperate mannerisms.
