Honestly, though, has anyone ever really taken game journalism seriously? Ever since I can remember, it's been plagued with giant companies owning the magazines that pump out news and reviews and other shenanigans.
Well they feel that they are game journalists, because E3 gives them press passes. However that is all bullshit since the only reason E3 gives them these passes is simply for commercialism and nothing more. Remember that The Irate Gamer gets to go to E3.
To be a journalist to be unbiased, and there does not exist an unbiased video game journalist. The closest thing we have really is Ben Croshaw and the guys over at GameTrailers. Even then that can be stretching it a bit. Being a video game journalist would be the same as being a food critic. You need a fine taste, a set of standards, and an idea of a lot of different cultures of food. Sure something new might cross your path and that's all fine and good, but you must judge it and retell your tales just the same.
Also just because you like food doesn't mean you're cut out to be a food critic. You have to like all kinds of food not just one or a few, it's like you have to have an open mind about all video games and not all games are meant for all people, so to find that one person who fits the bill is unique and it's what makes critics - critics.
