The enemies (I don't know what they're called) in Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee for the PS1 gave me nightmares when I was 5 or 6. But I still played the game with my friend anyway.

The description doesn't fit, if not a synonym of menace
Chaos from Sonic Adventure.
Seriously, the forms it takes are damn disturbing.
When I was small and I had watched Jurassic Park for the first time in theaters, Velociraptors permeated my nightmares. Real potent fear, that....I shook it off in a matter of weeks, and from that moment on I just thought raptors were the coolest thing next to dragons. I fantasized having a raptor as a pet for the longest time, turning that fear that I had for them into a fascination.
the gargoyles from ghostbusters fucked up my dreams for a while when i was a kid
When ever you feel powerless, just remember this.
A single one of your pubes can shut down an entire restaurant. - Conal / MOTW: O Lucky Man!
Phantamanta from Super Mario Sunshine.
"a ghostly manta shape, floating away over the hotel. It was paper thin, like a shadow, and then broke into smaller forms before turning into smoke and drifting away." ~Stephen King's The Shining
A kind of bread that is made in Mexico is called "Pan de muerto" (bread of dead) and some breadmakers shape the bread into humanoid forms, reminiscent of a baby, and sprayed it with red colored sugar. It fucking haunted my dreams.
I know it's not a monster, but frightened me when I was like 3.
The evil piano from Super Mario 64
Jason from Friday the 13th
Freddy Krueger (if you have a nightmare with this guy in it, then you're in some serious trouble)
The only time I've ever had a nightmare is when I had this lovely concoction of high-grade marijuana, about 4 or 5 strong beers, and half a bottle of Nyquil. The nightmare came the day after next, Nyquil sort of has the opposite effect when mixed with those things--gives you an intense, fucked up trip too.

Calibos also creeped me out, but I dunno if that ever directly caused bad dreams. Cuz I did still keep watching the movie over and over anyway.
The bogeyman.. or what my mind saw the bogeyman as. Dark tall man who was very fast, had the same night terror for about 3 years.

Wow. That's quite the inspirational story. I'm very impressed! Great artwork by the way.
Monsters have not given me nightmares, but interesting dreams.

Violator the demonic clown from hell
Not really a "monster" but Baron Samedi from GoldenEye N64 on the last Egypt level was always weird AF to me, and I played that game soo much when I was younger that I would actually have dreams of me killing these strange blocky shaped Russian guards
Are you not Entertained ?!?
If the internet was a monster then I'd say it definitely gives me nightmares.
Thomas the Tank Engine!
It's a fucking train with a fucking human face on it! The fact that that thing exists should send shivers down anyone's spine.

Out of all the things that Nintendo looked for inspiration, it had to be The Shining.
Most of my dream monsters are humans. 9 times out of 10 I'll say.
Once there was Pennywise the clown though, another this weird evil spirit.
