Anybody here speak Chinese? 2014-05-15 17:50:20

Hey guys I'm trying to finish an assignment and I'm having trouble with saying ''old memories'' in Chinese. Would it be just 回忆 or 旧回忆 ? I don't really trust google translate so I figured I'd post on there forums on the off chance somebody here speaks Chinese. I haven't gotten a response from others so here I am.

Thanks!

Anyone here know Chinese?

Why would you want to learn Chinese? We already have Google translate.

Legit though, if you still need it, my Chinese friend only just got back to me: 旧回忆

there might be something wrong with my browser. can't read the second phrase.

if you want to say 'old memories' in chinese, the former one which can be both a noun phrase or a verb, would suffice. there is no need to add anything in front of it.

in the first phrase, the first character implies you are looking back into the past, the second character refers to your memories. so, trying to add an additional word having the same meaning as 'old' is redundant.

Well it's sort of Japanese, but doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

'餓鬼な守銭奴馬鹿'

餓鬼 brat (or a hungry ghost in Buddhism)
守銭奴 nigg*rd, stingy person
馬鹿 fool
the な doesn't make any sense here

If I didn't know the language, I would trust Google Translate.

A recollection is a recollection. You don't have to add the word "old" in front and say "old recollection" do you?

Except maybe when you are writing a lyrics or something.

Well, yes. You can specify a time period if you want to but generally, "recollection" alone will be quite sufficient.

I seldom hear anybody use the chinese equivalent of "old" and "recollecton" together. I think most will say "recollection from (time)" in chinese.
