I don't really care for Steven Hawking. I respect him for over coming his disabilities to become a notable man of science, but I don't respect him for the fact that he thinks he is above everyone else.
I can agree though that if we were to find or meet intelligent life we must have some kind of guard up, but not come off as threatening or completely have our guns pointed at them.
We don't have to be trusting, but we don't have to assume either. The only way to truly know is fact, beyond fact we have speculation. Speculation can become anybody's playing field for their imagination.
Steve is alright, he just needs to get over his ego and primitive fear.
