No More PS2 :c

After 12 years of service, Sony is stopping production of the Playstation 2. I know just about everyone and their mother had a PS2. This really does make me a little sad. What are your thoughts on this event?

Well, it had to happen eventually. Hell, I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did. We got the PS4 on the horizon, so why on Earth would they keep making PS2s?

They stopped game development last year in March or this year in March I believe. I wouldn't care if they stopped making PS2's and games for them but please Sony make the PS4 compatible with PS3 and PS2. I think Sony will make PS3 and PS4 compatible since I don't know anyone who was happy with them making PS3 and PS1 not 2 compatible.

I still have a working PS2 so it ain't that bad I guess. Still, PS2 is the console that I spent the vast majority of my younger years playing. So much so that I went through about 5 or 6 of them. Can't say they were the most reliable systems ever made but they had some damn good games for their time.

I still play my PS2. To me the PS2 is the best console in the world and nothing in this generation has beat it. I have to wat and see what this generation of consoles will be like though.

I will only buy a ps4 if it has ps2 and ps3 backwards compatability.

I just got a PS2 again not long ago from my girlfriend. I definitely had a lot of fun playing it back in my younger years. I still love it, and plan on starting up a PS2 collection of games, etc.

I can see why they'd stop making it though, I'm surprise that they've been making them for 12 years, they're hard to find in Canada now usually, only available at pawn shops.

I hope the PS4 (Orbis) can play PS3 games, but I highly doubt it. I think they're going to go a whole different direction with the Orbis, and Playstation will be just history.

So far the PS2 has the most amount of games made for their console.
I still have mine and they have all the originals that are for other systems.
Devil May Cry
Kingdom Hearts
and more. I don't think that they even make the big consoles, now they make the slims.
Its really sad that they stopped making more, I thought that they did this in 2011 but oh well.

They stopped game production of the PS2 in March, so it was pretty inevitable that the console was going to follow suit as well. The biggest surprise was that it took them deep into the PS3 era to stop production of the PS2 altogether, which is a testament to the longevity and influence that the PS2 console had in games, but this could also be milking the success of the console a long way.

Hopefully, this is a sign that the next Sony console will have backwards compatibility that the PS3 did not have, but I fear that isn't going to be the case.

The PS3 is, but you have to buy the original fat one like mine, either, 20, 40, 60 or 80gb will play your PS1 and PS2 games, i'm not sure about 120gb though. It doesn't really bother me though, i have a ps2 in good condition.

Oh man, PS2 was one of the best. I still have one even though I have a PS3. Ps2 had games like "Most Wanted"(which I think is one of the best NFS's as well as all games).

Shoot, Sony didn't stop making PS1's until 2006, around the release time of the PS3.

The DS is a hand-held, though. there is no doubt the PS2 was one of the all time greats, but most successful, i don't really think so.

Even though the Nintendo DS is still in production and will more than likely pass it in sales soon, the PS2 selling 150+ million consoles is quite impressive.

They were still selling them for more than I saw Wii's going for and they were cheap as hell to make by now. Probably cost them around $40 or so to make a PS2 now that the hardware is so old. Damn, those things had a MASSIVE library.
