what is the most trusted method? 2011-11-08 13:21:02

At fully erasing a Sata Harddrive so literally nothing is left over? I'm having problems with one of my Sata harddrives because it doesn't seem to be fully erasing. I was wondering if any one here could recommend me a program that erases every part of the harddrive since something is causing errors on it as if it keeps remembering old operating systems I've installed on it which are causing new problems with the new operating systems. Thank you for your help. The reason I know this is because when I install a new operating system, some old programs for the old operating system still exist! So that means Snow Leopard is failing to erase my Sata Harddrive for whatever reason.

But thats why, in Snow Leopard I made this harddrive a Fat Ms so Windows could read it. I'm going to try to correct this problem in Windows. So, I'm looking for a Windows 7 tool that will entirely wipe my Sata harddrive out. Thank you again.

This particular Harddrive used to be an external harddrive. It is a Seagate 500gb harddrive that was originally for storage but now I'm trying to dedicate it to my Hackintosh but it seems to not want to be wiped fully cleaned. Basically its internal now(It's in my case being read instead of needing a plug to being read.)

Why do you want to wipe your drive so badly? Are you selling it off or something? If so, you might not want my advice, because most of my methods involve destroying it in some way.

Magnets, how do they work?

Also, wont a right click> format work?

Will only work if you remove the cover plate and expose the platters. But it will work with a strong enough magnet.

That only hides the information. And while it will eventually be overwritten, some information will still remain.

The only 100% certain way to destroy information would be to melt down the platters into hot slag.

Thats whats on my harddrive and it stops Snow Leopard from booting up because it keeps detecting the 10.6.8 update. I'm unsure if Apple put something malicious in their 10.6.8 update which is doing this to my harddrive now.

Only if it's hot enough to melt the whole damn thing.

I believe they said it had to be 600 degrees (F?) on CSI to destroy hard drive data.
