Ok so there's a news story. Guy gets molested by a priest as a kid. 30 years later he beats the shit out of the priest (who is now an old man). One guy was trying to argue that this would qualify as a hate crime and thus we should get rid of hate crimes.

Um, no he wasn't. He supported Al Gore in 2000, Kerry in 2004, and Clinton in 2008. He may have supported a conservative at one point...but if he did, I was in single digits of age, and the internet wasn't recording that at that point.
Also if you want to argue semantics, he doesn't own Fox news. Fox news is owned by Fox Entertainment group. F.E.G is owned by News Corporation, which is a conglomerate and has many owners.
Who directly owns and operates Fox News? Rupert Murdoch. As acknowledged by the FCC, and the US government. But hey, slight of hand is fun!

Exactly! People need evidence by correlation that all (or at least most) religious people are corrupt. Exactly! Even after that you need to extensively read the research in order to understand the findings. Not just the experts conclusions, but also the raw data as much as possible.
I remember someone trying to argue that group (x) is better at (1) than group (y). He didn't even bother to do any research, so I did. I found out the samples were heavily sided, over 90% of the subjects were from group (x)! He didn't even state that in his findings he just made a mention of it in an interview.
