Howdy everypeoples,

I felt like drawing a pirate last night... been on this strange pirate / zombie artwork kick lately for some reason...

Anyway I thought what the hell, I'll organize a collab for drawings of pirates, I've been wanting to do something piratey for a while and this is a good opportunity to do something fun and involve quite a few people.

The only guidelines for the collab are, a pirate has to be the main focus of the image, you can have a pirate ship but the pirate must be prominantly featured.

To make the transition to flash as seamless as possible your artwork must be a PNG with transparancy around the pirate. I will not cut out any pirate artwork for you so please don't ask me to. If you want to put a background in the image that you upload to this thread go right ahead. But PM me a link to a version of your drawing that doesn't have the background.

Keep it rated PG-13. No monster cock pirates, or adult themed drawings please. Violance and gore are ok though I guess. You can have nudity if it is tastefully done and not just for the shock value.

Give your pirate or pirates something to do. Mine is talking but I will more than likely make another drawing or two in more action oriented poses. Try to keep your drawings dynamic so they can flow nicely.

Make sure the PNG you submit is at least 600px by 600px. That is the size that I will be doing the collab at. if you can make it a bit bigger 800x800 even it will allow me more wiggle room for transitions.

Deadline for entries will be Valentines Day. Febuary 14th 2010.

Anywho I think that should just about cover most of the stuff needed.

pirates - boats, swords, guns and cannons

long range ninja is fucked
short range pirate is fucked

do the linework on a different layer to the background, and make sure its only the linework, its hard to do if youv done it all on one layer to start with

well what the hell do i do if I actually drew mine by hand, and it autamatically starts as the background?

Right click on background > Layer from Background, add a new layer and place it underneath, select the layer with the linework, press W to select the Magic Wand, start deleting everything but the linework, fiddle around with Tolerance if needed, presto.

You could also trace the linework in Illustrator, save it as .png and bring it into Photoshop.
Not sure if Inkscape, the free counterpart has the same option though.

i can't find the "layer from background" option, I'm using sumopaint, would that have something to do with it?

R... ight, I assumed you worked with Photoshop, I have no experience using Sumopaint but it does have layers, right?

yes just not the option you were talking about. DOES ANYONE HAVE EXPERIENCE WITH SUMOPAINT, AND COULD HELP ME SOLVE THIS PROBLEM??

I kinda forgot this was a collab, and not just a fun "lets all post our pirat drawings"-thread.. so im not sure if this qualifies, and to top it off, I dont have the psd anymore YAY!
