Torture, murder and stealing are a little different to eating meat wouldn't you say?
Don't get me wrong, PETA can put out as many ads as they want, but this is bullshit propaganda, that isn't even based on any facts. It's just scaremongering by people who think they're better because of their diet. As this thread has shown, they only succeed in alienating people, and looking like complete idiots. There is no structured debate in the advert, a large portion of it is just lies. Whether I chose to watch it or not is irrelevant; I watched it and have come to the conclusion that the advert only hinders their cause, not aid it.
My girlfriend is a vegetarian so I cook quite a few vegetarian meals for the two of us. I've grown quite fond of tofu (I only really started cooking with it because I hate quorn). But I still think it's important to have meat as a part of your diet, simply because it's easier to gain the protein and iron etc that you need to stay healthy than if you were vegetarian/vegan.
No I wouldn't because torture and killing are parts of the meat industry. But I believe that animals have the capacity to suffer and the desire to not suffer and so we should protect their interest by allowing them to live without suffering needlessly. And by not putting them in situations that will cause them great suffering.
I don't pay much attention to Peta for the most part, so I don't know whether they put out facts or bullshit. But the way they present their information is usually in an obnoxious and propagandist way. There are plenty of better organisations and websites with excellent information.
That's pretty cool. I don't know how you can dislike quorn! I thought that stuff was delicious back when I was vegetarian.
Protein and iron are easy to get. I actually don't have a problem getting the nutrients I need, and I keep track of that stuff. Only thing I don't usually get the recommended amount of is calories, but I've long since given up on bothering with that.

So how many of those reasons were actually valid and not born from Peta's arrogance and dumbassery?
Just look at stuff like this for real reasons to be vegetarian.
3 You can put more money in your mutual fund. Replacing meat, chicken and fish with vegetables and fruits is estimated to cut food bills by an average of $4,000 a year.
My personal experience is that being vegan is more expensive. Vegan meat replacers tend to cost a lot more than regular ol' meat and to acquire the right amount of vegetables to attain your daily advised callories is also a lot more. Even if a cucumber costs half the cost of a steak, the amount of cucumber needed evens out the drop of cost. add to this that it is also healthier to choose biovegetables rather than industrial vegetables. And bio is expensive.
Yeah, special vegan food can get expensive. I stopped buying it and started making a lot of my own stuff, it's cheaper that way. Fruits and veggies can be more expensive than cheese puffs and cookies, but I figure this way I'll have less doctor bills in the long run.
Oh, growing your own fruits and veggies is a good idea too. Organic, (possibly) pesticide-free, and cheap!

But we are still animals, We still eat meat
We're animals that are smart enough to realize we don't need to.
But it tastes good !, Plus it is very Bilogicaly Valuable, It has most of the things you need to make you a stronger healthier person. While when you eat vegies all the time there could be alot of down sides.
Stronger and healthier? I was vegetarian in high school and could bench more than most girls, and more than a few guys. They all ate meat. There have been a number of vegetarian/vegan athletes. Being veg does not put you at a disadvantage physically.
And again, vegetarians/vegans do NOT only eat vegetables all the time! Eating meat certainly hasn't helped you any..

Personally i don't think being a vegetarian is going to solve anything, I'm more concerned about how the animals are treated while they're still alive :/
Yes, and factory farms treat the animals worse than anything else. They are successful because they are cheap, efficient, and in demand. When a group of people doesn't support factory farms either by abstaining from meat or by choosing to buy their meat elsewhere, the demand for the factory farm's meat decreases. They will then adjust to the demand by lowering the supply. This means less animals are killed.
I wish Earfetish was still here.
