-Usually, it's because the drawing is too faint to be seen/picked up by the scanner. You could outline it darker, or, what I like to do is draw a large, thick black boarder around the drawing, so the scanner picks that up and everything in it.

(The part you see is an H and an A, the drawing is Hank holding 2 pistols with a big title in the front that says HANK)
