I mean why not just make your own ranking service where you define yourself as outranking everybody else? It'd be the same exact thing.
There's a pretty big difference in that this particular service pulls stats from a large amount of other sites (and individual games) as well, so a user can sign up there to get a comprehensive showcase of their accomplishments.
Nah. It's still a fact that it's only listing people who have signed up for that 3rd party website. No difference at all from, say, someone making their own ranking but then excluding everyone who didn't sign up to their special website or whatever. It's a way for people to cheat claims by virtue of the fact the official stats on Newgrounds will always be more accurate so the only reason to even do it bragging-rights wise is to cheat claims because otherwise you'd just refer to the official Newgrounds stats if you didn't have anything to hide (like, say, people who outranked you).
And ditto for any other sites. You would use whatever their official stats are. Otherwise you're just cheating claims from everyone who didn't sign up for this service.
NG not being listed is a disadvantage too since gamers might not find their way here, or may see no reason to do so considering MGS doesn't track this particular site.
I'd not even heard of this MGS site until PhantasyReal promoted it one time. And apparently the same is true of a great many people. Why do you hold that site to be so important? Gamers on any platform should refer to that official platform's official rankings anyway, so that would hold true for everything else, XBox, Stream, PlayStationNetwork, whatever.
If you ask me, Newgrounds is at no disadvantage here but rather it is this data aggregation site which would be at the disadvantage.
At the very least this is useful promotion no?
Useful promotion for MGS, yes. Useful promotion for Newgrounds, no.
The site's been mentioned before, and been around for some time, but it finally having an official dedicated NG ranking page is a pretty big thing IMO. Complete or no.
Yes, it's been mentioned by PhantasyReal. Again it's just a 3rd party data aggregation site. You could keep your own personal lists on your own computer and it would be just as valid without having to give your info to a 3rd party.
And if you think otherwise, remember that the most accurate and correct stats are those on the official platforms anyway, not those of some 3rd party.
The main benefit benefit though, to me, is that accomplishments are listed even after they disappear there, so it's basically like a Wauback Machine for medals if they're indexed in time.
So basically the main benefit is to have an unfair advantage over everybody else and to not compete fairly. Got it.
If medals are removed there's usually a reason they were removed, and it's not fair to give people credit for things completely impossible to obtain. Yes it sucks if you got some hard medals which were later removed, but I've been in that boat too, and if they were indeed broken and others could never obtain them that's not really fair either.
If you want a list of these sorts of things you could always keep your own personal lists on your own computer.
I mean if anyone wants to use the site that is up to them. Use whatever sites you want. But it's at the very least dishonest if anyone uses the site for competition purposes, which seems the intended purpose.
