Hmm... you raised an important issue... I think I'll try to put it under discussion among others of what to do with this.

I came across another one requiring the #1 score. In this case, the score to beat is suspiciously much higher than the rest of the scores, but it's not blatantly impossible.

There are quite an assortment of games which have at least one global high scores based medal in them, whether it be simply to get on the high scores list, or to get one of the top 5, top 3, or top high score itself.

Some of these I have. Others, like Asterash or Tunnel Swipe, I do not.

The problem isn't the people who play the games fairly. It is obviously the fact that any cheater can upload some fake "high score" and thus ruin the medal for everyone beyond that point. If it is obtained fairly then presumably someone else can fairly match or beat it.

I don't believe that Asterash high-scorer is legit. Also unfortunately that game is an extreme resource hog so even if someone did legitly obtain the high score, they would probably need a beast of a machine to do so. Combine with the fact that the longer it takes to obtain a medal, the greater chances of medal API connection timeouts, and thus a failure to award medal even had you obtained the highest score, which would be a real bummer.

I'm not saying that would happen for sure in that game, but it could happen in any game and certainly happens in many. Which is why the save the game prior to obtaining time-consuming medal, reload page, reload game, complete medal is required for so many games, but that won't work for games which must be done all in one sitting, such as Asterash.

There are some dead giveaways someone is cheating the high scores, and yes I believe that Asterash high-scorer cheated.
1) The high score is literally not possible to obtain. Perhaps there is a highest possible score in the game, and someone has a high score beyond that.
2) The high score is ridiculously beyond any of the others, particularly in a case where the person who obtained such score doesn't appear to have the skills requisite.

So when you have someone who doesn't appear to be very good at video games, yet they magically have the high scores in some game(s)? You can be pretty sure they cheated. That is literally the only game they played that they have medals in. Ask yourself -- would someone who was good at games only have exactly one medal game and no other games they had even played, ever?

Or you'll find someone who isn't very good medals-wise, yet magically has the highest score(s) in some game(s). This also wouldn't add up, because we're talking someone with the easiest medals ever (thus indicating a non-skilled player) somehow magically having high scores in the games. If they were good they should at least have some of the tough medals.

Look at my scores and look at my medals. Yes I actually do have the high score in several games on the site, but then again I actually am really good at video games just in general, and there's nothing that doesn't add up.

And in fact if I find some easy way to grind score in a game, I generally post as such in the comments for the game itself, so anyone else may surpass my high score if they so choose to grind it out. Even in cases where it isn't grindable but is skill-based, I will generally put up a guide of sorts in particularly tricky cases, so if someone read my comments on the game they would have some idea how to go about trying to beat my score.

In other words, yes I'm good, and yes I can achieve high scores in many games, but I don't desire to lock anyone out of anything and will try to give advice that'll help others achieve or even beat my scores. Someone that is cheating the scores lacks skill and will try to put up impossible scores with the express purpose of locking everyone else out of ever obtaining the high score.

It's bad enough on games where the high score isn't tied to a medal. When it is tied to a medal then it's just extra douchey if someone cheats it (and thus cheats everyone else out of a medal).

I think I will interfere in this one since that score indeed looks abnormal. I'll consult the author and if this will fix the problem that score will be deleted, making it possible for other players to earn that medal.

The new user profile makes it much harder for me to keep track of my medal score.
At least, I managed to have a very small gain instead of a loss.

Thanks for the update! I couldn't quite reach my stretch goal, but I got my 10k+. I'm finally done with the majority of selfdefiant games. Still over 2500 games I haven't even played yet I think :P
