When I posted the announcement about Amazon Wishlists and PayPal Donations in user accounts, I received one cynical response:

"so how much is amazon paying you to do this??? for fucks sake i'm realy geting pissed off with new grounds, your constantly finding was to milk users for money. When i started comeing here i could put up with the ungodly amounts of ads and i diden't bitch when the ads started to change my home page every time i went on the net. I also never mentioned the constant errors on the fourm that make it very hard to do anything, i diden't say a word about the times i spent trying to get a movie to load movies

but now i'm pissed off and i'm fucking tired of your shit, FUCKING STOP YOU GREEDY ASSFUCK!!!"

My frontpage response was originally going to be MUCH NASTIER, but I try not to personally attack users.

We added these features to further support NG CONTRIBUTORS. We don't get a cut! We did it because it seemed like a cool idea. A lot of authors have wanted to have donation links in the past, so now they ALL can.

I personally don't care if none of you ever buy anything for anyone. If I can personally do something nice for a few authors, then it is worth it to me.

That cynical comment was obviously mad ein ignorance. Anyone with a basic knowledge of the workings of Amazon and Paypal understands that you're doing this for the authors and not the bling bling. We appreciate it Tom! Don't let the ignorant get ya down. :)

you gotta take it all with a grain of salt. Some users will be more hostile than others- it comes with being such a popular site.
I appreciate your efforts though. keep up the good work on the site.

Tom, it was great idea.. everytime you change something on newgrounds user flip out or start rumors. The paypal system was already in many artist movies or listed in there profile. The ng staff just made it much easier to access. Also the amazon thing is just a fun idea and a new thing. There was some other things in the bbs about this and i think it good to read other users opinions but to that extent is not needed. O well good work and thats a funny email

I've personally never seen anyone post a wishlist other than an Amazon wishlist (for example, many webmasters post an Amazon wishlist every year for Christmas). I like to support smaller businesses whenever possible, but Amazon and Paypal seemed like the two most common services used by people on-line. They are also the most trusted by the average web surfer (a lot of people already have accounts with both).

People like that are idiots. The homepage changing thing is a Spybot, not the site itself. The ads are conveniently placed at the sides of the site, and not in front, and best of all, you don't even have to visit amazon! I don't know what this guy was thinking.

First post here...only because whoever that is the assfuck, not you. Reading the new lit page about major events of 2003, I noticed that the hosting costs are now "5 figures." (please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) And Tom is paying this why? So we all can fucking come here. Anyone who accuses him of being greedy should think of all the hard work put into this site, and of the contributors whose job is making Flash anims. They probably aren't getting paid amazing amounts, but are working to bring us high quality animation anyways, for free! Whoever wrote that should fucking think before he/she acts next time.

Hey dude, ever tried hosting a site that gets 1000+ visits a day? The kind of money required for a server is insane. Since only 3 people are running the site, why are you complaining it hasn't been upgraded? in fact, there's no need for an upgrade. If I was Tom, I would probably be busy placing thins in certain categories and all that. But of course, there's always whining people who can never have it their way.

It is extremely expensive paying for the vast amounts of bandwidth Newgrounds soaks up everyday. It's amazing it has done so well and yet lasted so long. The ads may be slightly annoying, but it is a small price to pay for such an incredible website hosting incredible flash from incredible people. If all I have to put up with is the occasional ad, then so be it.

Next time Inspiron, think before you open your mouth.

Personally, I'd like to thank you very VERY much for that. I'm not ever going to use PayPal or CafePress because I don't like putting my credit card or SSN number on the internet. The Amazon thing was a stroke of brilliance. It's a great idea, and I hope that guy that emailed you stops coming to NG if he's just going to complain about it. This Amazon/PayPal thing doesn't affect anyone in a negative way; there's no reason for anyone to be mad about it.
