Umm very late review

Wow this song is old. You took a 4 month break? I just started 4 months ago on NG so this feels like such a late review to your 2nd latest song. Has a bit of a sad tone. Matches the crappy weather I'm getting here. Raining everyday here. :( I don't know about the terror part...but I can see how the mystery flavour fits in. I would call this a mini music story. This is just a demo so I think your full version will be pretty cool. 4 months of further preparation is a good chunk of time to make this into a masterpiece. GL with that. I agree with karco on the atmosphery stuff. I like it which reminds me....I still have to finish my ambience song for karco. Okay so you proven a point about diversity because you want to use this in a game. I don't see a sunken ship but what I do see is someone creeping through a dark empty room with the grandfather clock ticking. (during the minor parts of the piano playing) What or who else is in that room? The suspense :)
Okay so have fun finishing this and your other preview song. The 10/10 is for the final version so you just get the 9 for now. Bye for now

Mataro responds:

Awesome, thanks for the great review :D

The terror part is more about how you percieve it... I personally see a slow crawl through a creaking ghost ship.. But that's just me. Come back soon when I submit my next one :D

Thanks for your time MS ^^

Terror, interest, and mysteries...

I'd like to see how that works out. Too bad the song has to load... >=( Yeah, now I see what you mean when you say that your audio page doesn't exactly do justice what you can do... you haven't submitted for a month and a half!

There it is. And it sounds good... nice reeverb and delay there. The piano doesn't quite sound in tune and I don't think you introduce it well but as the song progresses it takes its place and works out. Huh, weird chords, now... did you just switch from a major key to a minor one? Did you modulate the rest of the song to fit? It doesn't sound like it... otherwise, though, the piano's pretty good, and it works.

Good choice there, with the strings... somewhat predictable, actually, but maybe I've been listening to a lot of similar songs. They actually do a lot for the song! I like the note progression there, too.

The percussion is definitely one of the highlights. You cleverly chose and used your samples in this song, and I'm hearing some creative rhythms there. It does get a bit boring, though, and I think you could have faded it out along with a filter of some kind to progress the song, as, say, the piano took on a new note progression, along with some nice chords.

Your atmosphere in this song is great! You definitely get that "sunken ship" feeling, which is great. Other than the weird piano chords, every aspect of your song contributes to this atmosphere. It sounds GREAT in the beginning, as it all comes in, though, like I said earlier, it got boring and you could have progressed it and built on it a bit more.

Honestly, I'm not all that good at reviewing songs like these - well, not as good with them as I am with, say, Techno/Trance/DnB/etc., which are generally easier to review. So this isn't as long of a review... but hey, I wrote a few paragraphs, right? I'll soon get to reviewing... how about your song Sanctity? It'll be a bit, though, so don't be surprised if you see a review for this and your first and not for that yet. Overall, great job with this, I like songs like this a lot! And this definitely deserves better than a 2.50. PM me when you submit something new, I want to review it. =D

Mataro responds:

That review is plenty long, I assure you :D

There isn't much I can say about this other than "I've fixed that chord progression part, and when I finally figure out how to end the song, I'll sunmit it" :P

Thanks a ton for the review! ^^

No reviews?

Ill put an end to this

The song crept in very subtly, with the clock ticking, a very omnicscent feel. The drums were a little plain, wished to see some more diversity there.

Once the piano went solo, I could tell you were starting to build something. The bass drums started pounding and the piano kept repeating...but nothing happened.

WOuld have been awesome to see the strings come back with a full orchetration of woodwinds and brass, then have the drums switch to a driving rock beat. But I only dream...

The piano needed more structure. It had a melody, but really didnt progress as the song developed. Once every instrument has its own personality and emotion to express, then you have a masterpiece!!!

Mataro responds:

Yeah.. A full orchestration would b lovely.. But alas I lack the ability to do so :P

The piano part has been changed, now it just plays an altered melody that changes the atmosphere ever so slightly, but it works well. As for the diversity, well, I think that adding too much would make the song unsuitable for use in a game scenario (which is where this is ultimately destined to be :P). I'll see what I can do about mixing up the drums a bit more, I'm just kind of experimenting with this song a bit.

Thanks a ton for stopping by RGH! ^^
