Well, here it finally is. The project that took a week but seemed like 2 years. I present Rattlesnake. Now the inspiration of this song came from F-777 with his track Viper (Cobra and Anaconda were also inspiring but those aren't on NG). The synths were put together so well. It really reminded me of a snake! I wanted to do something similar. But the thing is, I have very mixed feelings about this track.
I always saw NG as being a place for people to start out. Granted there's a lot of professionals on here, but this is a good place for noobs like me to get noticed. Well, I've received a couple comments now saying "I shouldn't be posting on here if I can't make it sound good". I actually even told a friend @BlastBeats that I was afraid to post this because I didn't know what people would think on it since it's not like typical dubstep. An excerpt of what he responded was:
"The audience is used to their level of production, and because of that, everything you make sounds shitty, even though you made the most amazing progress ever. That's also why I don't make dubstep (yet). I want to improve a bit more before going bassy, so that I'm not seen as a "fail". Point being: Don't judge by the appreciation of the people here; think about your progress, since that is what matters the most as a beginner."
It really gave me confidence to finish this track and post it. Because it's true. Obviously my tracks aren't professional or popular, but all I can do is keep practicing. So really, thanks to him I got the motivation to finish it.
Now, on to the stats. This uses 28 patterns, 4 automation clip sources, and 20 inserts. That's more than I've ever used in the past. The faint bongo drums were actually imported from FL Studio Mobile since I couldn't find any on 12. I used a bit of Vocodex as well. The drops aren't the greatest but it's the best I could do without synthesizers like Sylenth, NI Massive, or Serum.
I have no idea what I'm going to do next. If there's anything seriously wrong with this track I can always make some changes. Other than that, I really want to take a lot of time and study some techniques. I have many ideas I want to exercise, but I also don't want it to fail. I have a remix in mind I want to pursue. But for the moment, I'm going to be practicing and studying. Maybe I can share some of my tests.
Please rate and review, and if you read this far I hope you enjoy the track.
Until next time,

I like the song! A bit repetitive, but the drops are cool! I hope to see more songs from you!

BlueAlpha14 responds:

I'm actually surprised how many people like this song. It kind of ignores the rules of dubstep and general rules of melodies and chords. I personally am not proud of the drops, but if you enjoy them that's my goal as a producer.
(By the way I may make a remastered version someday)

I'd say this is better than your average track, you're improving, yet the mixing and melodies aren't very good primarily the mixing. The instruments and percussion sort of clash, too much on the bass. Also about learning how to make music with NG I think is a great idea, when I first started out I was way worse than you. Keep going and start simple. =D

BlueAlpha14 responds:

You really think so? Odd since I think my older tracks were better than this one.. I sure hope I'd be improving after 3 months lol.
The melody I agree wasn't very good but it was the closest to an "Indonesian" lead since all of the snake related tracks I heard have that sort of feel. And yeah, I can't argue about the mixing. I used to think it was silly that professional artists pay people to do their mixing for them but I can see now why it's very hard.
I have met a mixture of people on here in terms of audio. Some people have given me great advice, some people have given me inspiration/motivation, some people say "screw off and figure it out yourself", and some people think my music isn't good enough to be posting on here. I used to have way too high expectations while browsing through here but now after seeing the tough work myself I'll definitely look from a beginner's point of view if a user who's starting out posts a not so good track.
Thanks for the review!

Sounds like a melodic rattle of a rattle snake.

The drops are not very effective and everything is rather strange. The first part is fine until what seems to be wind blowing into the mic comes in.

Then the hats in the drop are way too loud, and the sounds just don't work.

What I recommend you do is just make more tracks and keep learning new knowledge in synthesis, mixing or composition. Because if you keep working on this one track, it doesn't make you better faster as much as having experience with a lot of new tracks.

BlueAlpha14 responds:

That's EXACTLY what I was going for. I wanted to remind people of a rattle snake the same way I was reminded of a viper listening to F-777's track.

The drop didn't use near as much automation as normal dubstep, so that's probably why. This is actually going to be last dubstep for a bit.

I knew someone would comment on the drums. In some cases they had to be loud.

I try to do homework as much as I can. This was actually going to be just a test but I evolved it into a full track.

Thank you for the review and I hope you can listen to my future stuff!
