WELL ITS BEEN LIKE ELEVENTY SIX YEARS

This song sort of came out of the blue, just lots of screwing around with it for 3 months or so and now I think its good enough to upload.

I hope this might show how far I've progressed in my compositions, this one is meant to be way more dynamic than any of my other songs.

I apologize if it doesn't seem like the right genre, but I have no idea what to call this lol.

PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR OPINIONS I ONLY WANT TO GET BETTER, THANKS I LOVE YOU

I don't really know what to call this either, dude lol. It's honestly difficult for me to decide whether or not I like the mashup of digital and acoustic instruments in this track. The strings in this piece are top notch and the panning and stereo effects really bring out a ton of width in the track. My favorite has to be that percussion though at :56 and 1:44 with the rolling snares and banging bass drum. Love it!

Now after listening through it again, I will say that my problem with this piece is that the digital drum kit really brings down the quality of the track, in my opinion. It's not necessarily a bad kit, and I'm sure it would work well in a lot of techno beats, but in this circumstance it just feels too plain to be keeping the beat for an orchestra. I'm thinking it's the samples used, but maybe I'm too used to hearing an acoustic kit behind an orchestra lol. Sizzlin hats and all that, y'know?

Never really heard of something like this before, so you've got uniqueness on your side here! Just needs a little ironing out on some of the digital instruments and I think you'll be throwing out some pretty cool stuff!

Free2Play responds:

Thanks man, especially about pointing out the string mixing. I do try really hard to get the strings to sound convincing and not too fake.

I agree completely, the drum kit is something that is hard to notice after you're used to it but it really is lacking in enough variety and the samples aren't really what's needed for a song like this.

Maybe I should look up different kits used in orchestras? I stuck with classic snares and bass drums in the buildup before the chorus, which sounds way more interesting.

Thanks a lot! I might just go back and try to fix these things and get a better sound.

I like the opening, fun instrumentation what with the strings and 8-bit/chiptune sounding synth. The strings could start out a little quieter, it's sort of blasting my ears right from the start. The synth that enters at 0:30 and the rhythm it plays clash a bit with the strings and their rhythm. Very epic sounding around the 01:00 mark. But again I think the synth and strings don't work well together, are they in a different time signature or something? 01:43 is nice, I like the timpani apart from the strange sounding hi-hat (maybe?) that doesn't really fit. The bells are a nice touch.
Overall pretty enjoyable listen, I like the varied song structure and instrumentation and the melodies are all nice and uplifting!

Free2Play responds:

Thanks man!

I agree with the beginning, that ended up being a groaner for me after uploading it.

I think the issue with the strings that you and JoshuaHughes pointed out was that there aren't any examples of the acoustic instruments doing any rhythm. All the synths take the rhythmic parts and the acoustic instruments sort of act like a varied pad and take the melody. I think that hurts trying to make them feel seamless.

That's probably why the build up to the chorus worked a little better.

Thanks alot! Great advice that I'll definitely keep in mind!

pretty good, i can listen that this must have been taking some time to make. Its pretty good. Though when i listen to this song it feels like im playing Dragon nest.

i would even class this a techno more like classical its good work with the violin but would more effective with out the soft beats !!!! keep it up

I would re-upload this under electronic - house, because this actually falls into an electronic epic category, which I have not heard in a while now

To boot, it is very well done too, your choice of the violin complimented the bass nicely
This makes me want to hear your other works

Free2Play responds:

Thanks! That's one thing that's hard for me to get from my head to a song is a good sound and mix of instruments. I was really focusing on making an interesting dynamic composition. A lot of elements of my songs get stale fast.
