***Edit 01/09/13*** HUGE props to SkyeWintrest for fully mixing the song and giving some very helpful advice in general!

===========================

Wow. Finally done.

With a 6-day tour and a tone of IRL stuff going on, I was certain that I wouldn't make it, or that the finished product would be terrible. In the end, I had little more than THREE days to write the entire song, and through that I had to find the perfect musicians for the job, and then contact them individually. On more than one occasion I was ready to drop the whole thing, thinking it was either too cliche or just plain boring/bad/uninspired.

It was a stroke of pure chance that I managed to get most of the people I had in mind, that they agreed to do this for free AND cope with a highly unpolished MIDI demo and some barely-readable charts. We had two days to rehearse and record the song, and the song was finished ten minutes before the rehearsal. Also, since I had blown what little money I had left on my studio gear, I barely even have the money to print said charts, and so a lot of people had to read on the same page. Add the soprano sax player breaking his horn the night before and needing to call some guy I knew but had never actually talked to for emergency replacement, and the fact that I'm fighting against last year's NGADM champion AND Musician of the Year 2012, and you can understand that this was a HIGHLY stressful project.

In the end, though, it's the musicians that absolutely KILLED IT. They poured their heart and soul into the project, gave some very helpful suggestions and were very patient and receptive to my own comments. I think that the best part is that after the project, every single one of them came to me and told me how much they enjoyed working on this project and would/will gladly come back for any future projects I have.

I thank the entirety of the Newgrounds community that has supported me over the years, as well as the many friends I have made through this site that have given me countless and priceless advice that have made me into the man I am today. I would also like to personally thank Nimble, Samulis and Skye for their feedback on the song throughout the concept phase, and Skye for the very useful mixing advice she gave me.

With that said, I hope you enjoy this song, fruit of the cumulative knowledge, style and musicality I have gained through this year's hardship, and I wish the best of luck to Kor-Rune!

I've showed this track to a bunch of people because it has such a great groove. I've asked drummers to count this out, and the large majority of them are flabbergasted at the timing and can't count it out! It's hilarious!

It's just overall a great track. Mixing, composition. Short stops on the piano. Every voicing was so fitting for the song.

It makes me visualize an artist who begins drawing with pencil and paper, and as they are drawing the characters begin to come to life and jump off of the page and interact with the world around them before falling back into place on the page in a finished piece as the composition comes to a close. When a track does that, it becomes a favorite!

camoshark responds:

Hey man, I'm really glad you finally decided to review this track, I'm really happy you've loved it that much. :)

I just happen to REALLY love rhythmic counterpoint, and I grew up in a crowd that had similar interests, so over the years I've developed a certain ear for it. I'm glad your friends all find it interesting, it shows that I've hit a certain level.

Again thanks for this, and I promise I've got similar stuff in the works, I just have to find the time and energy for it.

Until then, thanks for your interest in what I do, and I'll keep you in the know as it happens. :)

Great composition, great musicians...there's probably nothing I could say others haven't said before.
Mind-blowing, unadulterated awesomeness.

camoshark responds:

Coming from you, I take that as the greatest of compliments!

Very glad you enjoyed, thanks for the comment!

- NGADM Round 1 Review -

Okay, so I've spent some time listening to each individual instrument for a while now. When I heard it for the first time, it sounded like quite the mess, with some hardly coherent parts. However, as I continued to listen, and then listened again, and then again, I know I at least won't tire of this song, not for a long while. It's got a great amount of variety, and several parts that sound very experimental, but most of them end up working very well. The recording is excellent, and instrument choice even more so. The style of your composition is very unique; there is so much I like.

There are many cool parts to this song, as well as some very solid parts to counteract the not-so-solid, such as a few rhythm issues. One not very impressive thing about your song, however, is it's ending. After hearing over eight minutess of coolness, it sounded rather...lame, yes. Your title is probably the most accurate title ever - Supercollide, indeed.

Score: 8.7

absolutely incredible! even though I could never do jazz to save my life, I still love listening to it. my band directors from my high school days would totally geek out to this track. excellent work!

I don't listen to Jazz often, but when I do, I listen to Supercollide. Stay Jazzy, my friends! ;)
