Random improvisation. Partially inspired by a really, REALLY depressing my little pony fanfiction. Remastered for the Fading Light compilation album, you can buy it here.

IDK... I kinda like that timing mistakes.

The timing errors give vitality... it's beautiful

6/10 song, 11/10 improv.

Thanks for posting this, it gives some really intriguing insight into your musical thought process. I improvise a lot, so this is really pushing me into practicing harder, because I don't think I'm quite as competent on the keys.

Just to make you (annoyingly?) aware of your own tendencies- you really love that VI-VII-i progression, don't you ;-)

I also hear vi-V-IV-III a lot. I think you know that because I heard you swap out III for II once, which is one of those things you do when you know you're over using a progression. It was interesting but probably impossible to actually use in a song. :P

ErikMcClure responds:

I have to overuse progressions in my improvs because I need a stable default to fall back on when I have no idea what i'm doing. If you had access to some of my other improvisations, you would realize i'm actually falling back on several common melodic ideas too, not just chord progressions.

Hey man! I love this because I feel like we have a very similar thought process when approaching improvisation. I see myself in the way you relate chords and melodies. That said, a bit more harmonic/melodic variation would be appreciated. Nevertheless, this was very inspiring and I was engaged all the way through, regardless of the hiccups.
Bonus points for the classic techno motif at the end ;)
Keep it up!

ErikMcClure responds:

The very very subtle 15 ms lag I can't eliminate that really messes with my jive. Also I kind of hate playing on a MIDI piano instead of a real one.

I have difficulty introducing advanced melodic concepts into improvisations because I can't figure out how to set them up and they don't come naturally.

very impressive, as said below the rythm changes may looks a little od on the 1st seconds but definately the song is better with
