Well hello there!

I think y'all are gonna like this. This is the first tune I've made where I've not quantized a single thing. Every melodic track was performed/recorded live without even a touch of the Q-stick. It definitely helped lend a nice groove to the song.

The track starts off as progressive house (more classic than modern) and at the half-way point makes a switch to 8-bit soul house. I call it that because it's an 8-bit synth but damn, it's got soul! :D

Like all my music, this was made entirely in Propellerhead's Reason 6. I created my own combinator for the bassy/washy synth (with all the effects on it) so I could have more hands-on control of when/what effect got triggered to continue with the live feel of the song.

I've tried to listen to this on as many different types of speakers as I could and I think/hope I've corrected my usual high-frequency issues but please do let me know. :) I'd love to know what it sounds like in a car too! I keep missing my chance, damn downtown living!

As usual, please rate / review / enjoy! :)

Awesome track, my dude. I don't really get all in depth in review. Either I love it, like it or don't care for it. You've always been a cool guy to me and that goes a long way in my book. Keep up that great work. (^_^)

durn responds:

Haha, thanks doom. :D

This is really cool! I've never heard something quite like this before. I especially like that clap and the 8-bit lead (especially those chords after the halfway mark). However, I think that the 3rd chord in the progression should be (in some places) just a straight up major chord (as opposed to a major 7th chord).

But damn, this is good.

durn responds:

Thanks TKG. :) You're right about those chords, I'm too lazy to go back and fix now though. ;)

I think the beginning was a little rough because that hat is a little sharp me. d:
But as it progressed it gradually got better. I love the synths in this, what VST do you use for that?
Haha, and it looks like my song and your song are battling for first on most popular.. >:D

durn responds:

Aye, should've started at a lower volume, may yet still! No VSTs were used, just some of the synths in Reason. And I dunno what most popular list you're lookin' at but you definitely bumped me outta top 4, ya jerk! ;) Thanks for the review, Detious.

Holy shit this is GREAT. Love the vibe present here, and the lack of quantization definitely helped the groove. Also, that simple, syncopated bass really keeps it flowing at a chilled pace throughout. Nice instruments, great chord progressions, and overall very well mixed. One of my most pleasurable head-bobbing experiences ever, keep it up dood!

durn responds:

Haha, thanks man. I'm very appreciative of the jamming I get to do with friends, as I find it helps build groove & rhythm more than playing solo. Glad to see you noticed the extra work I put into mastering on this one. :)
