So, I was approached one day by one of the teachers at my school. He wanted a song to go with a video about our school that he was making and going to post online at some point (via the division's website or something). When he asked the music tech teacher originally, he was redirected to me. If any of you recall me mentioning this class (music tech) in an earlier "Author's comments", I am pleased to tell you a received a 100% in it.

Then again, 100 is just a number.

Obviously, I accepted the task. The conditions were that the song had to be about 3 minutes long, and be not too "busy" (basically, no solos).

I tell you, I was freaking out for a while after that, because I still had exams to study for and stuff. But I tried my best, and this is the result.

When I played the song over and over to think of a name for it, I thought of air, and something that was moving. Then, using my incredible neurological powers, I searched thesaurus.com or something.

lol

There isn't really a lot going on in this song, so just try to picture yourself floating up in the clouds, riding the wind, and discovering new and exotic locales. You have the power to do this for 24 hours. When would you go? What could you find out? Remember, you can only go as fast as the wind, so pick a windy day for this XD

I tried some new EQ/compressor stuff for this, so if anything's out of balance or sounds odd, let me know!

Oh yes, and the teacher from the first paragraph? He said it was perfect for the video. Yay!

Once again

Great stuff, I'll keep this review short.
I loved the flow and the small transitions, I like it always man! Only thing I wasn't sure about, was at times the volume seemed to dip, not sure if that's just fatigue or something. . I didn't seem to favour that much, I'll give it a listen when I'm not tired and see what I think next time. Great work! Congrats, first a teacher, next a big someone who is famous or whatnot. . . . zzz I'm too tired to think of puns that are already bad -_-

Birdinator99 responds:

Yea, these wacky dynamic transitions seem to come from my experience with my school band, and I don't know if they work here. Hmm...

You are getting sleepy...very sleepy...but thanks for the review...also you must sleep...

Congrats

Really good ambient piece. It does work well as background music. I'm glad you got a 100% for this one, you deserve it.

The snare sample sounds a little weak, maybe something with a bit more "kick" to it (not sure how to describe it). And the dynamics are somewhat disorienting in some places, fading away to almost nothing one second and then very loud the next. Otherwise great work.

Great job getting it into a video. Keep up the good work!

Birdinator99 responds:

Yea, I'm trying to get those dynamics working for me, not against me -- that's what I'm working on next!

Thanks for your support!

Sounds great, the title fits well

Whatever new stuff you tried, it sounds good.

Your work is really starting to sound polished.

Birdinator99 responds:

That's weird, because I didn't put polish on this; I just wiped it with a damp rag.

Still gets the job done :p

Thanks for stopping by!

Beautiful

Wow was this a wonderful track to find. Kind of reminds me of those old audio tracks from the 80s that they would use in sleuth and horror films. Sadly they never were entertaining to me. This is however a really great track, love what you managed to capture here.

The synth sounds really desert like with a little bit of a wind effect heard in the backing of it so that was nice. The bass line used is also very classy and simple like those back then. Really liked how you did the drum track though, had a lot of hi hats in it and a great beat to go with it as well.

I have to say I was rather entertained and enjoying this track. I think you did quite an amazing job on this.

Overall, wonderful piece.

Whoa, sounds like you really liked it! Thanks for the kind words!

Deserving of 100%

What an amazing track. I can't really find much to pick on here.

First think I can think of is that the intro was really well-done. I really like that you tried to incorporate percussion into such a techy track, you did it pretty good, but I really don't like the crash sounds, and the drum samples in general aren't the best for a track of this nature. Also wondering what's up with the sudden drop at about 0.55 and again after about a minute, and at 2.20?

Thinking of what this song was to be used to, it sounds really good. I can easily imagine this being in the background of a promotional video of sorts.

I see where you got the idea of air from, the melody is quite floating, relaxing. only thing keeping it from being a proper ambient track (IMO, of course, it's quite relative) is the fact that the rhythmics section is so powerful.

The fade-out, I'm not a big fan of, seems like a simple exit to a pretty nice piece.

Cheers
KAG

Birdinator99 responds:

Those drops were to enhance the crescendos into the next section -- I feel like I don't do enough of that stuff, y'know? I think varying dynamics, used effectively, can make a piece more interesting. Whether or not that was accomplished here is up for debate, though. I'm just glad you noticed it, frankly!

As for the fade out, I think it was best for the video to end it that way, but I understand your view on it.

The drum samples -- I like 'em, but the crash is iffy in some spots I suppose.

I always appreciate your reviews, dude. Thanks very much!
