Full name: Pretending every thing's gonna be all right.
Me trying to play the piano again, and making a song to hehe. I've never really made something like this before, so like this is completely new to me. Tried to vary the drums a bit and give it a bit of a glitch feeling. Dedicated to Laura and Theo and Mismatched (Nuunanuu). Hi Brad, <3 Kris Huge thanks to Zorrays and inspiration came from "Shoot Myself" by Venetian Snares =). Took around 2 hours to make hehe.
Software used - Reason 3.0 =P

Enjoy ^_^

...Yeah, I would have never guessed you played this live. Over-quantising something you played live is always a pretty good way of making it sound that way...I think that unless you really have played it THAT out of time, that you shouldn't quantise live things any more than is needed, because having everything dead-straight on time is a good way to make it sound synthesized. Perhaps more than that is the fact that every note is being played at what seems to be the exact same dynamic, so I'd say that either you need to work on your dynamics a lot more and/or if you're using an electric keyboard, see if it is touch-sensitive as far as how loud it will play the notes, or fiddle with the dynamics of it in reason to give it a more natural sound.

I thought the cymbal at the start (or whatever it was?) with the piano was a little weird, just because generally you don't start songs with a cymbal crash? xD
I liked the drum beat that came in after, though. It was present, but didn't overpower the piano and had some really nice glitchy sounds to it. I was about to say it was lacking a bass but then realised it was my speakers sucking, so now with headphones in I can say I really like the bass/again, present, but not overpowering. And at 1:30ish or so, you also had some quieter piano(?) sounds in the back which were really nice.
I think it's the entrance of the string/wind sounds at 1:40ish where you lost me on the hip-hop idea. But then again, I'm a total noob when it comes to what hiphop is in general, never mind olskool hiphop, so maybe this is what it does sound like xD As a piece in general though, I did like it. Despite the slightly-manufactured sound of the piano, you did have a lot of feeling there and I think this really matched the title of your song. Keep it up.

Ever since I found out about quantize, I've pretty much never looked back. I've always quantized stuff perfectly, a lot of the time it just doesn't sound "in time" enough, even though I know it is. Oh and yes, dynamics is something I haven't used in ages, I just get the line tool and make everything the same nowadays, I'll have to go back to actually keeping the velocity at it's original amount, it does make better sound now that I think about it :D! Thanks man!

Regarding dynamics on certain parts, that's something I'm gonna get on right away (first on mah list) hehe. I may just play it again and leave the dynamics and it seems to have just made it sound too processed.

Oh and I'm not really into HipHop music much, so I don't have that much of a clue either, I just asked one of my friends and he was like that's hiphop and I was like cool xP. I'm glad you liked my orchestral section! :D

Thanks for the awesome review maaaaaaan! :D :D

Good song

This song creates a very good atmosphere. Just the right thing I need on a sunny day like this. :)
It feels very relaxing, but it also feels as if there's some kind of "threat" in the background. This fits really good to the title. Just as if the song is saying: Yes, there are some problems that needs to be adressed, but everything is going to be all right, so don't worry.

I really like this song.

Thanks, I'm glad you think so :D! Never seen it as a sunny day though, but I do now :D :D!

I'm glad you picked up on the subtle threat I put in there! I'll be sure to address the problems that have come up :3. Thanks for your kind words and the fave :D :D!

I figured...

That I should review something from the RRC here so I don't go too inactive so I decided to review someone who I was familiar with. Sorry if the review isn't exactly helpful though because I'm really not in the mood to review this type of audio. I want something like heavy metal. :P

Anyway, yeah you played this on the piano? Hmm, I was going to state that I thought it sounded too manufactured, but if you played this on the piano then it wasn't a premade sound I guess. My ears have no clue what they hear anymore with my old age.

There seems to be a clash of genres that almost work great together, but just not quite yet. I think it had something to do with the glitchy sound that the drums gave off. It wasn't bad enough to make me dislike the song though.

The song really does give that feeling of pretending that everything is going to be alright. I think you did a wonderful job of portraying that feeling in this song. The fade out at the end was very effective as well.

Overall, the song was pretty good. There just seemed to be a bit of odds and ends that seemed to clash to me, but I just couldn't pinpoint them down to specifics.

ChampionAnwar responds:

Yaaaay Fro! :D I've never really been able to make metal. . For me that has to actually be physically played to get decent sound, and seeing as I can't do that~ It'll be ages before I get that, but I won't rule it out :D

I did play the piano, I can guess it sounded manufactured because it didn't seem 'human' enough? If that is correct, it's most probably because I quantized all my notes so they'd be perfectly on beat, I'm quit obsessive with the placement of notes xP. Oh and ya, 21 isn't old. . Come on now xD.

Ah, and I love glitch-core music ALOT, so yeah I thought I'd incorporate that into this tune one way or not. . That glitchy hi-hat was probably what you picked out. I'll hope to make a fusion that works next time hehehe.

I'm glad for you I portrayed what the song name suggested, and thanks for the kind words. . Yaaay for RRC members =P.

Hmm, I'll look into those odds and see what I can conjure up :D Thanks for the review man! :D
