i started the song without the mortal combat theme, but then got curious. i took the mortal combat song and adjusted it's key and fit it into the original song. The product was awesome, lol, i didn't expect that. then i need vocals, so i found them royalty free online and made a whole fight out of the song. This song turned out way better than i thought it would. i am proud :). It has around 57 patterns, 160 bpm / 80 bpm. took me about nine hours split between two long nights after class.

Thank you Review Request Club and all of my consistent reviewers that i message, i appreciate your time and input :).

"FINISH HIM!"

Omg dude that was fantastic. The beat was very well put together, and i loved how you used Shao Kahn's voice in a lot of the song. I love when remixes have the voices in it. Fantastic work man, cheers to you.

Bahaha!

Sorry it took so long for me to respond, I had a lot on my plate...

Anyways:

Initial comments: hehe, I like it. It sounds kind of sadistic... >=D

Flow: WHAT? lol, you used the vocals to tell a bit of a story and to carry the piece, I don't think I've heard anyone do that before in this genre of music. I applaud you. Full marks, sir.

Balance: I heard no balance issues, didn't hear any cracking or fuzz... I didn't get a whole lot of "wow" effect from the panning, but it didn't actually cause a problem so it's not hurting your score. One thing I might mention is that the bassline that plays on the 8th note offbeats only could use just a very slight push with the reverb. Just tweak it up by the slightest amount. I could be wrong, but I believe that it might give just a little more punch to the vocals. Another option could be to totally change its spatial positioning every time it changes what note it's playing (so it sounds like it's coming from randomly changing locations), although I think that would only work until about 1:20 or so. I'd have to hear it to be sure if it would actually work as well as I imagine though.

Themes: You did a fantastic job with the themes, I love the change around 1:20-1:30 or wherever it is exactly. You played around a lot, and it was fun to listen to. Full marks here.

Effects: What you had was great. But for some reason there just seemed to be something missing in this area. I can't place my finger exactly on what it is, though. I just didn't get the "!!!" or "wow" feeling as much as I think I could have. Missing a bit of power every once in a while, maybe. In any case, like I said, what you had was great.

Extra: +[0.03] awarded.

Overall: hmm... I think a [ 9.78 / 10.00 ] is what I ended up with here. [ 10 / 10 ], [ 5 / 5 ]. Good work.

Power to you, Bracksta!

Bracksta responds:

wow, great review :)!
Responses:

Flow: yep the song was a three round death match lol, thanks for realizing that, many did not.

Balance: you are right i did add much reverb and didn't master the song very well.

Themes: the themes were iffy in many peoples opinions, but that is because they missed the point of the song. I took the mortal combat melodies and mixed them with my own meledies, thus "Mortal Kombat vs. DjBracksta".

Effects: there is a lack here because there are almost no effects, mostly transition fx at that.

Overall: Amazing review :) thank you very much for your time and effort!

Good vocal samples, but not my favourite

To be honest, this piece just screams at me some music that you'd thrown together as a decent track, but pasted the vocal samples over the top of to make it appeal to a target audience.

If you're going to do something like that, the best thing you could have done is to throw in your own voice, or someone else's of the round numbers, to take it away from the Morktal Kombat ties. I think that the quality of the vocal samples was good, but rather than overdo them, you should consider throwing them in only when they are needed. If you were going to use any of the MK voices, why not the shout of "MORTAL KOMBAT!"? That's the one that tends to be used in these things to the greatest effect.

Perhaps allow the music to come through a little more. The buildup was good and the pace increased nicely to reflect this. A little more focus on the music will certainly help here :)

Starts slow but gets amazing later on

While I still prefer the original version (it's just too awesome) I have to say that this is a very interesting remix. I like that you put so much of your own work into this and created a whole new song with it.
Sometimes remixes tend to sound too much like the original and the author just changed a few notes. But you changed a lot more than just a few notes. In fact - judging by your author comment - this wasn't even planned as a mortal kombat remix in the beginning.

Anyway, the intro is a bit messy, there seems to be too much going on at the same time, but the song constantly gets better and after about 1 minute the song just sounds awesome.

The outro is done very nicely, even though there's a pretty long silence at the end. I like how you slowly end this song, it sounds much better as if you had ended it with a big clash of cymbals at the end.

Bracksta responds:

you are very observant :). yep, i am working on finishing the original song before i added mortal kombat in. the intro seems messy because i am introducing two melodies at once, it was not to easy. i agree that the original is very hard to stand up to, so i just threw a bracksta wrench into the sucka and tried my best. i am very glad that i ended the song slowly because if i didn't the listener would have had no cuddle time after the storm of sound and would have been like, "What the hell man?!" lol. thanks for the great review and vote and time Haggard :D, always happy to have your input!

Grr Argh lol

I love it but still there's too much going on. The BG sounds kinda got in the way. Overall the song is great but it still seems it's missing something. I'm going to try my best at remaking this song down the line.

I do believe a collab should be in order haha

Bracksta responds:

i'm game, i really like collabs :)
