The Appreciation Society - Dreams and Nightmares demo.

Just a quick and rough demo i wrote and recorded the other day and wanted to know what the general newgrounds public might think of it.

"Nice!"

date: October 11, 2009

This impressed me quite bit. I expected a sort of mystical and magical song with bells and pads after I read the name of the song, but this is fine with me too :).

The melodies are nice and catchy, with quite a few alternate melodies here and there. The vocals were recorded really well, and although I think they do need to be a little louder and clearer, they sound a much better than a lot of songs with vocals in them on NG. The instrument choice here was very simple - just a guitar, with accompanying vocals, but they did the job greatly.

Good and smooth transitions. Nothing felt off, and all the melodies fit together smoothly. Fantastic song structure, one of the best I've heard in a long time, and this had very good variety. The vocals were varied and really well written, which stopped the song from getting repetitive, so good job over there. Perfect intro, started the song up very well, and the ending was really cool too.

A suggestion is going on a DAW or something and adding some drum beats here and there, I think it would fit quite well with this song; maybe some ride cymbals, brushed snares, soft kicks and clavs or something. Still, that's just a suggestion, this sounds great even without drums :).

I can't really find any defects in this song, except that I think the voice could've been slightly louder. Other than that, this really impressed me, and it sounds great. Excellent job!

No Download, sorry. I don't like songs with lyrics much. :(

I liked this one very much and out of all of the requests in the Review Request Club this week (so far because I haven't finished them all yet) this one has been my favorite by far I think.

Very simple instruments, but they went very well with the song as a whole and with the vocals. The vocals were done very well and everything seemed to be of great quality!

As I can't really think of anything you can do to improve the song at hand I can tell you that it might help if you add the lyrics to your author comments as people can't always fully understand what people are singing sometimes.

"Nice work..."

date: October 11, 2009

Vocals were quite good, and provided each other witha great harmony blend, although they went a bit discordant for a few seconds in some parts.

Melody was pretty simple and plain but it blended in well with the genre of music which you wanted to portray. The background and chord progressions weren't bad, but yet again, they were too simple for my liking.

Not a bad piece of music and you definetely did a good job with the lyrics and the meaning. Needs a bit more emotion from your voice though.

"Simon and Garfunkel Mk II"

date: October 10, 2009

Seriously, this totally reminds me of Simon and Garfunkel. The melody especially in the intro is so simple yet so effective, that I was instantly nodding my head to it.

When the vocals set it I was reminded of the already mentioned Simon and Garfunkel. I don't know exactly why, but maybe it's the simple melodies together with two singers singing together in harmony. Well, at least it sounds as if there are two people singing. Or is this just an effect on the voice?

Anyway, this is a very nice song, this goes straight into my favorites. :)
