-=* FAWM 50/90 Challenge, 2009 *=-
-----------------Song #1-------------------
===== http://5090.fawm.org/ ======

Spacefaring 8-bit chiptune! Inspired by shmups like Gradius.
Once again like all my chiptunes, this one adheres to the NES hardware limits.

I was planning to wait until finishing and releasing this one, but I'm doing the FAWM 50/90 song challenge right now and thought I'd get it done and out there now. You should check out the challenge, always helps me write more, although quality tends to fall out in favour of quantity. But when can a composer complain about getting more music done?

This is only a first draft of the song since this challenge is fairly rushed, so I will update the MP3 here soon enough with a fixed version that handles some issues with the flow of the song that are present in this version (at least, IMO).

Great song. Reminded me a lot of the old shooter games, like gradius. Really top notch. Also, and i apologize in advanced if this has been asked already, but what program do you use? Or do you use modded NES?

Author's Response:

1942... I know that game... the classic top-view SHMUP where you take on jets, tanks, aircraft carriers, everything!

And yes my friend, this is meant to be pure SHMUP music. Glad you enjoyed it!

It's not often you hear an 8-bit chiptune of such great quality. It definitely has that spacefaring feel to it. Some people say that it sounds like Pokemon. But, personally, it reminds me more of Gunstar Heroes, done in 8-bit style. Though, I doubt many remember that game... Oh, well.

Anyway, great job. Way to throw us back to the 8-bit awesomeness of our old days.
