You have just decided to listen to my biggest project yet. This song has taken my about 2 months to complete, so there is a lot of work in this!

"Antarctica" is a song that depicts Antarctica in ways you wouldn't really expect. This song was written to show aspects of it that people normally wouldn't expect to think of. The four movements are as follows:

"Dawn of no Sun" 0:00-2:10
"Stars through Southern Lights" 2:10-4:20
"The Iceberg" 4:20-4:57
"First Sunrise" 4:57-5:47

"Dawn of no Sun" depicts what is actually a very common site in Antarctica. It is morning, but there is no sun due to the earth's tilt during the winter. This also means that there will be constant blizzards. There is also a foghorn effect to symbolize the boats that may travel there for fish. This movement features a French horn solo and a French horn plus clarinet duet.

"Stars through Southern Lights" depicts the sight of stars while looking at the southern lights. This would be both a strange and beautiful sight. The waves of the melody depict the waves of the southern lights while the constant counter melody of short notes depicts the twinkling of the stars. This movement features a trumpet solo, duet, and trio as well as a string soli.

"The Iceberg" depicts the sudden collapse of an iceberg and the awe and terror that it displays. This movement also features a percussion soli.

"First Sunrise" depicts the first sunrise after winter to show the coming spring. The melody from the first movement is put to a major key in this movement with a striking chord at the end to show that the sun is coming, but there is still turmoil lurking.

I understand that there are some audio problems in this, but I will not be able to fix them for some time due to the trouble my computer is giving me.

You may also need to turn up the volume some as well.

I had a blast working on this project! Special thanks to Maki-kun for all of the input that was given to me. Please listen, vote, review, and let the music take you away, to the incredible world of Antarctica.

Do you write all classical peices?

I like this peice better than the last one I reviewed. I wish I had the patience to write out full orchestral peices like this. I mainly write really weird stuff on a program called Fruity Loops Studio. I've submitted some stuff to the portal, but not my best stuff, in my opinion. What program do you use again? It sounds REALLY good! I want to look into it. 10/10, 5/5.

PenguinSam responds:

Thanks! I used a program called Finale 2006. They now have Finale 2009 out right now (which is TONS better than 2006). Let me warn you, it is very expencive. The regular price is $600. Xp But if you qualify for the adacemic pricing, it is about $250 :|

There are less expensive versions of Finale and so much more that I could tell you, but it would be easier to go to www.finalemusic.com to find out more about about the program, because I couldn't tell you everything!

Thanks for the review!

This should be in

A movie
period
.

PenguinSam responds:

I strongly agree!

People have started to hint that I should be a film score composer, so I take that comment to heart!

Thank you!

Wow...

This is superb. I love the intro. You really captured the essence of nature and life in such a desolate and unforgiving land amazingly well.

I love the structure. This is a true classical piece of work, with a storyline and multiple movements in the piece. Wonderful work here.

As I sit and listen, I feel like I'm almost interacting with the music, and Antarctica itself. I feel the chilling winds and snow, and the grandness of the landscape. As well as the individuality and loneliness of being in such an unforgiving area of the world.

The mix you get with your instruments is amazing. It truly sounds like a real orchestra is playing this. Amazing, simply amazing.

I love the chord progressions you used. You have a knack of taking someone on a journey through time. And really do well at creating atmosphere in your music.

There is nothing wrong with this. Very impressive sir.

5/5 and 10/10 overall. Great job man.

PenguinSam responds:

Ah, yes, the chord progressions! The progressions used are some of the most unusual that I have used (especialy in "Stars Through Southern Lights").

I am simply filled with joy that people are loving this piece so much! It makes me feel all wiggly inside!

Thank You!!!!

<PS>

amazed, as always!

what fabulous instrumentation! full sound!
Dawn of no sun- beautiful melody and movement-perfect percussion-just enough! love the french horn and clarinet!

Stars through southern lights-love the underlying piano. i would have expected a lighter sound...more with strings and flutes and bells, but that just may be my liking. the string melody is quite nice. you were very successful creating "waves" of sound that paint the picture of waves of light.

The Iceberg-this was my favorite part of the piece!!!! love the timpani on this! what a beautiful concept to paint with music! i still may have wanted a little more with percussion-to really emphasize the crashing of the huge sheets of ice just cascading down and "exploding"....

First Sunrise- still felt like i needed more "high" sounds...flutes, oboes, bells, the "twinkling" of the sun rays peering thru the clouds....but again, i play flute, i may be biased :P

overall opinion- was a well-thought out piece of art. beautiful concept, well executed! and inspiring! well deserved 5/5 and 10/10! please, continue to make such lovely music!!!!

PenguinSam responds:

OOOOH! I love those ideas! They sounds simply wonderful! I would love to add stuff like that into my music!

Only problem is, my program doesn't like Vista so much, so I have to get it upgraded before even thinking about makeing a new audio of this song.

There are some ideas that I might pass on due to the image that I saw and the mood I wish to create, but the percusion in "The Iceberg" was a huge struggle for me, so I hear that comment to so surprise!

I am so happy that you like this piece so much!

<PS>

So calm, so beautiful!!!

I was waiting for the final product to review, now here it is and I am just speechless, I really dont know what to say, you managed to capture the images of all the titles you mentioned in the music and thats just awesome!

This is such an extraordinary piece! Its hard to believe 1 man can accomplish it!!!

Boy! Every time I listen to your music I want to start making a classical piece myself XD And I definitely will, but for now I'll keep enjoying this amazingly interesting and beautiful soundtrack!

Peace my brother, and keep it up!!

PenguinSam responds:

I'm so glad that I have inspired you like that! That has some deep meaning into it!

I don't know what else to say, thanks!
