Originally, as some of you know - this song file was titled "Memories (DEMO)" and was exactly the same as this but with one minor change: the vocals.

After reading all of my reviews, talking to fellow musicians whom I respect, and consulting with friends and teachers alike - I have come to this decision. The original demo version of "Memories" was as close as I could ever get to a final version. The emotion I displayed and sent through that piece was unmatchable and I could never do it the same way again. (Maybe if I tried really hard but that's another story).

So, what I decided to do was reopen the original demo file and make one minor change. To do a dual voice and have vocals over the voice changer voice to make the lyrics more understandable. This is my final version in all of it's glory. For those of you who have been following all the versions - you may feel cheated or you may feel I have made the right choice.

I can understand your feelings whatever they may be - but this is my decision. And I'm keeping it. I hope you enjoy the final version of Memories.

---------------------

[Original Commentary for "Memories (DEMO)]

I'd like to say (with some pride) that every single instrument on this track is the same instrument. My Ibanez AS83. I used no presets and no pedals - just plugged the guitar into an AMP with some gain and made that fucker whine. The ONLY effect I added was some reverse on the guitar during the beginning verses as i'm sure you can tell. However, besides that every other sound I got from my guitar was from me going fucking beserk. I'm pretty proud of the sounds I got out of my guitar - and once again I used a voice changer for the vocals.

Lyrics:

Take a look around at what is left of what we built.
It has fallen apart to our memories - our memories.
Take this moment and put it in your pocket -keep it with all the rest.
'Cause in the morning your dreams will always leave you alone and feeling restless.

Please remember the times that I held you in the rain and in the snow.
'Cause without memories, there is nothing left to hold you from just letting go.

[Edit: 08/28/08 - It has come to my attention that I was unconciouslly inspired by another song. I do not know the song's name, but it is by the artist "Halley". I have tried looking for it but found nothing - if anyone finds out the name of the song please let me know.]

"Vocal...."

I don't really think the vocal works well to be honest, but admire your style. How you lay the guitars in is just very good. A second voice (with lower octave) gives a weird feeling too.

Glad you liked it =). Thanks for the helpful criticism.

"Awesome"

The simplicity of the first minute is amazingly lonely and sad.
To be honest I would have preferred that the whole song and don't like what comes after.

Also I would prefer just the filtered background voice. The foreground voice seems too... low quality and dispassionate and a bit overpowering.

The lyrics are ok. They don't grab me but at least they don't sound cheesy (which most do, tbh).

Anyway that's a lot of criticism, but I really do think the beginning is fantastic (!), and I would like to hear another version taking into account what I said. :)

Author's Response:

Hmmm, the original version I had was only the filtered backround voice but as you can see (from past reviews) no one liked it or could understand it.

But now... Bad Man Inc. and you say you like the voice... i'm so confused! Can't please everyone I guess >_>... i'm still debating whether or not to change it back.

"Dude."

date: July 20, 2008

This is fucking sad as fuck. Maybe it wasn't the best quality, or the singing that great....but it just made me think of some poor fucker, no job, no money, no family, no hope. Sitting in his box, listening to this scratched up record on an old phonograph. Doesn't even really know what the song is anymore...but never even cared.
In essence, this is goddamn perfect. It made me fucking depressed...and not because of the "shittiness" as others have said....if you know what I mean.

I actually liked this version better than your other ones, cause it just had the vibe of depression and sadness. Truly man.

At 1:19 it kinda took away from the effect. If you faded out to there...or let it loop at 1:18, this would be the saddest fucking song ever.

I'm gonna go blow my brains out now.

Author's Response:

OMG! Don't blow your brains out please!

Thankyou for the awesome review! It put a smile on my face. (Not because your depressed - but because the emotion I wanted to express got channeled)

This review had alot of influence on me - and if possible i'm going to try and do my best to use a voice changer in the final version while still having people able to understand the lyrics. I'll take everything you said to heart and do my best to put it in the final version.

So do you not like the synthesized version of this song? If you could PM me with some more detail I would really appreciate it seeing as I want to make this song as perfect as possible.

Thanks so much for the great review!

"I'm not gonna say it's shit,"

date: July 18, 2008

But I'm not gonna say it's the best I've ever heard. Maybe it's just that i don't like listening to screeching and random moaning... Either way, Interesting song?

July 18, 2008

Author's Response:

Haha - alright then. Keep in mind this is only a DEMO... you should check out the second version.

"Not bad at all."

date: July 16, 2008

I'm sure if you had a decent mi for the vocals it would have been alright but the vocals sucked. (being honest)

The rest was well made, hard to believe you only used reverb but wow man, good job.

Keep doing what you do.

Author's Response:

Thankyou - as harsh as your reviews are I have come to realize one thing.

THE VOCALS SUCK! =)

So in my second version I promise you all (and myself) I will not use a voice changer. I plan on speeding it up for easier vocals, and i'll just sing it. (I actually can sing guys o.o)

Thanks for the harsh review! xD
