An ethno-jazz project, Anghel Marc on kaval and Petre Scafaru on saxophone.
Me on trumpet, piano and ... stuff (bass and drums programing)
The wind instruments i used:
Kaval - a very old folk flute from the Balkans, notably Bulgaria, Macedonia, Romania and Turkey, played by Marc Anghel
I think the oriental "exotic" sound is given by kaval and also by having 7/8 time signature, wich is quite odd in jazz but quite common in Balkan area
I use also modes are from that area ... and all the song is dressed up in a jazz concept

This starts with the drum to set the groove, so , have patience ;)

Well, I don't know that much about jazz to say something very developed...
I'm just going to say that I loved it...=D
Awesome song...

"Refreshing!"

It's oh so good to hear real original music for once, played by real people; instead of all this electronic stuff made with prerecorded, packaged sounds that people try to pass off as jazz on newgrounds.
Now that I'm done my short rant, here's what I think:
Very nice use of ethnic sounds and styles.
The kaval did cut in a bit though, its sound is very dark compared to the trumpet and sax, but it worked out!
Great!

Thanx for review.
There are some more people who have recordings "for real" here:
No1r, spamwangler, nutrumpet, SSM-NW, porksoda, Sonofkirk and a nice Funk/Hip-Hop band, BaraPaLatsas.

"Now that's mo' like it!"

This is what this category needs more of; live, recorded and Original Jazz!

Kudos for using one of my favourite key signatures, too. I can hear touches of Brubeck in the mix.It has the right feel in my opinion.

The Balkan influence works for Greece, since they're kinda part of it and share a lot of historical & cultural ties with both them and Turkey.

I might try my hand at composing something in Jazz now. It won't be nearly as crisp, but we'll see.:)

Hehe... thanx.
You know, it was on the Audio Forum also a D'n'B competition in unusual time signatures, so you might find some more music in your favorite one ;)

Also, feel free to drop me a line when your jazz track is ready.

"Exellent."

I especialy enjoy the sax solo, and the erie piano groove.
Awsome. It reminds me Rabih Abou Kalil. I like the Time signature.

Thanx.
The theme itself was a moment of inspiration... I think the piano also. For the sax solo all the praises goes to Petre Radu Scafaru who at the moment might be in NY.

Wonderful! Loved the compliments between the trumpet and sax. And the kaval gave a wonderful "exotic" touch to it, like you said. Lovely beat. Its got a nice bossa nova feel to it. Keep it up! 5/5.
