Outside the Fire

A Phoenix rising out the flames, though I wont tell you my interpretation on this piece, tell me what you people think. ^_^

Prismacolor pencils, and one of those little smudge sticks. This piece took me forever to complete but finally was able to finish it in âEUTM07. XD

Anyway that will be the last of my pencil work for a while and IâEUTMll start posting up my much better, updated and more improved digital Photoshop painted work.

wow

Excellent detail with excellent lighting and a range of vibrant colors which gives this work an impressive aspect.

FiraPhoenix responds:

Thank you very much.

sweet

my school does this literary magazine the pheonix
students submit their poetry, short stories and art, an its sold around the school like the yearbook. this would be the perfect cover, im currently trying to draw a cover to submit, its looking decent but im horrible at coloring

i guess my interpritation is.. its trying to rise through the flames to greater heights, but lesser demons seem to try an hold it back. great work

FiraPhoenix responds:

Thanks and yeah, my interpretation is something like that just a little different. ItâEUTMs more so representing a phoenix being born again and escaping the claws of death.

And my high school actually did that magazine thing too, and I actually submitted this piece, however sense the school was terrible about returning art that they did not use I sent them a scanned copy that had my initials on it in the top corner like you see here. Their rules were that they wanted the originals and not to have it signed anywhere. I am just too paranoid though to risk the chance of them loosing my artwork and getting it published in something without my signature on it. So I figured it was better to keep hold of the original piece then risk losing it to a high school magazine. XP

"DUDE"

Thats insanely kool, keep that shit comin mate. "Prismacolor pencils, and one of those little smudge sticks" you beast! how do you recover from making a mistake?.......or do u?
but yeah...fuckin impressive, well done. XD

FiraPhoenix responds:

Oh, I make a lot of mistakes, but the one thing I have a tendency to do with colored pencils that covers over it is that I thickly layer the pencils over the paper, to the point it actually etches the paper some and makes it smooth with the pencil filling. It takes a lot more time, eats up my pencils, and IâEUTMve had people tell me time and time again not to do itâEUTMs a bad practice. However I donâEUTMt care, I think makes it look cool and the originals feel awesome when you run your hands lightly over them.

Thanks though, really means a lot.

PS: It was too much for the smudge stick... didnâEUTMt make it. XD

Awesome

This is awesome dude! the design of the fire and the lighting are great! I could totally see this airbrushed as a detail on a hood of a car :p

FiraPhoenix responds:

Oh, wow. ThatâEUTMs an honor to hear that. I really admire the guys who airbrush cars, IâEUTMve watched them work and simply envy their skill. Thank you. :)
