A great game that oozes personality as much as it does blo- I mean, juice. Speaking of, the striking color contrast between greyscale and tomato red gives the visuals the thematic unity the whole thing needs: A dark stormy night, with a tower of death looming high into the sky. Brutal fruit-shooting action. Unforgettably-detailed facial expressions.
The sound design is phenomenal and makes excellent use of FamiTracker's capabilities to make a catchy soundtrack with more than a bop or two (forever loving the sea shanty feel of Rotting and Forgotten, for example) that feels like a union between Shovel Knight and the Scott Pilgrim game (with just a touch of Crypt of the Necrodancer), and complements it with very evocative sound effects.
The central risk-reward gameplay loop is a creative take on roguelikes and works very well, and with the gunplay and level design at work you've got a game I enjoyed playing over and over. I started from scratch until I could get that speedrun achievement, and though I bought the same guns, I had fun with it every single time, and did more than a few victory laps to try out everything. Comparisons to Enter the Gungeon definitely make sense and speak to the quality of the game, but Fruity Tower is no clone and offers a unique experience. Eagerly looking forward to your next project!
