Reviews for "Afeared"

I like the gritty texture at the beginning and the catchy strummed riffs at :28. The melodic content might’ve sounded a bit more impactful during the first minute if all of the notes weren’t so short and staccato, though. The production quality and harmonies are both enjoyable here. I still think transitions are what you need some more work on. The changes in the texture at 1:07 comes on a little suddenly, although I like what you did with the shifts in the rhythmic emphasis at 1:22 and again at 1:40. The ominous top line at 2:35 added a nice sense of variety after a while, and I appreciated how you broke up the intensity of the piece with the breakdown at 2:51. I think the composition feels pretty drawn-out at times, especially with the added repetitions of the riff at 3:27. Still, I liked the new melodic material at 4:03, and overall I thought you did a good job of hitting this piece home. I don’t think the piece is nearly as bad as you think it is. It has a good sense of shape, and the sound design and mixing are both really strong. Keep at it, JDawg00100! ^_^

You should collaborate with LunyAlex and get his vocals on top of this. The section from 2:35-3:35 is very enjoyable. My only gripe with this is the timbre remains the same throughout, and that is perhaps why I enjoy the section I just mentioned besides the great guitar playing of course. Hence I think having some vocals would complete the thing.
However in regards to the timbre, this is more or less my first impression, but when I go back to listen over it again, I really enjoy the progression of your guitar playing. I wonder if I would appreciate a darker tone in the mix as opposed to the higher frequencies in the distortion being so prominent. But hey it's Heavy Metal, and this is better than what I could do with the style.

JDawg00100 responds:

That is exactly why I felt a little disappointed in the song. I really wanted to add some variation to it, but I just couldn't quite fit anything in other than that section. And I think that section is great but I could have done more. As for vocals I would absolutely love that! And I appreciate the review :)

YES! Nice one! Really happy to see a metal piece competing on this contest, really like the song!
Best of luck JDawg :)

JDawg00100 responds:

Thank you :)

Production and textures remind me of Machine Head's The Blackening in the best of ways.
Composition is slightly more progressive and groovie than that.
Great song!

You've said that to me before, I really need to check it out. Thanks for the review :)
