Reviews for "Mina Miner: Dig Deep!"

Wow, this was incredible! It was basically an inverted Javanoid! I remember playing those games all the time! I thought it was so creative with all the different kinds of tiles. Even the puns were cute! It's very unique for a mining game!

Those indestructible blocks were the worst! It's such a cute game. I so wish it had a higher score. Well, you can at least know someone as prolific a reviewer as me loved it! I'm glad it wasn't too hard either. Some rocks were hard though, hee hee!

Omg thanks Ericho! I'm so glad you liked it :) thanks for stopping by!

i like the digging theme but the way drill bounces is a deal breaker for me. absolutely random and unpredictible :(

larrynachos responds:

The wall colliders are very similar to the drawings, so you should have some idea of where it's going. It IS kinda hard directing the drill with the paddle, you have to hit it right on the corner.

Thanks for the review!

Umm.. Ok.. I am surprised no one is commenting about the games mechanics. I have no problem with this being an inverted and themed breakout clone. Visually it is nice. I also like the hazards (mostly) and varying goals. But the mechanics are horrid.

Unlike the typical breakout game (or pretty much every paddle based game) where the 'drill' hits the paddle doesn't seem to impact the direction of the drill, meaning the player has no control over avoiding obstacles or how they finish the level. Your only goal as a player is to prevent the drill from hitting the upper boundary. I.e. all you can do is survive.

The drill itself even defies breakout style movement rules, not always ricocheting in a logical manner. This goes on to the extent that the drill will sometimes go the opposite direction it should go.

These two points in themselves sap the fun from this game. Then we toss in the electric drill. All of the other bonuses or hazards (including the lights out) can be worked with, the electric drill seems entirely random, you can't tell where it is going to decide to go. Yes, i get that it is a hazard, but it is pointless and annoying IMHO.

Finally. mouse capture. During a level your actual cursor becomes invisible yet the game doesn't capture the mouse. The second your mouse leaves the game (which happened to me more than once) the paddle stops. I would suggest you either capture the mouse or leave it visible so that we can see when we are drifting near the edge.

I understand that you put a lot of work into this game, and it shows. The visuals and theme are nice and suitable. I just cant get past the flaws that turn this from really great to mostly just annoying.

larrynachos responds:

Yeah, I've gotten a lot of complaints about the mouse issue, so I'm gonna find a solution today.

The paddle has a squashed oval for a collider, so there is a bit of control over where the drill goes, it just needs a little precision. I don't know how the ball is "controlled" in breakout, so I just went for a basic bounce system.

The erratic drill is, well, erratic. Maybe it's possessed by an evil ground ghost or something lol.

Thanks for the feedback and review! I'll see if I can make some improvements in the future.

Brilliant game! Love the multiplayer feature.

EDIT: Managed to get 2 multiplayer matches within 15 minutes.

larrynachos responds:

Has anyone played with you? I haven't gotten in a match since I published the project lol.

Thanks for the review, I'm glad you liked it!

cool game
