Fun little game there!If possible i would put an opition which allows the user to regulate how fast the game goes,except for that this is a great game.

I'd love to see leaderboards in the game and maybe a stats board so you can see how many boxes you dodged and what your high score is. If you can't make like a menu screen its okay you can just put the stats button in like a corner or something.
For someone's first game, this is a great attempt!

I like your focus on the core gameplay loop and not jumping over the fence by adding unnecessary axillary stuff which doesn't work.
I have two complains:
sound effects. Add them. For the sake of practice. For the sake of fun.
you could've centralized the gamera without it being to the side.
Edit: I saw you ask if the pace was good enough. No, it is too fast. The blocks fall down fast and the character moves too responsively.
Overall keep on working, I am glad your brains are floating in the right direction.
