Reviews for "Shadow Steps"

Holy moly. I can't say that after They Taught Us To Dream I didn't expect something like this, but dang. That's tight.

Dude I don't even know where to start writing this review. I could talk about how your rhythmic style makes the climaxes very satisfying and intriguing to listen to. I could talk about how your drums work a very nice balance between being loud enough to keep the drive and being soft enough to not be distracting. I could talk about how your sound design always keeps things fresh the whole time as to never leave me bored.

I could also talk about how your command in transitions helps keep the drive going throughout the track for a seamless sonic experience that never lets up on the tension. I could also talk about how you effectively created a contrast between the melodic flowing sections and the rhythmic breakbeat drops which helps distinguish them.

But I could also talk about how each of the sections sounds a bit more or less of the same thing sound design wise, which leads to the dulling of the effect. I could also talk about how the mix doesn't quite have the amount of highs I would have liked. I could also talk about how I was looking for some contrast to the mood at some point in this track but never got something without the tension. But all that is nitpicking, really. This is some top notch work.

Of course, your competitor Lethalix pulled out some of his best, too. Good luck! I'm interested in the results for this one.

That's a lot of kind words

Thanks :)

Damn dude this is awesome. My only complaint is that the drop is a bit too messy sometimes. I don't really know how to explain it better than that. Other than that, really good work on this one.

Good luck against me xD

this is neat! the heavy amens give this track a bit of a different feel to a lot of neuro i've listened to but i really like em. actually this track is really good at riding that edge between moody and just too fucking heavy. the second roller gave me hella current value vibes. so nice.

i do think the intro and rollers could be a lot shorter (like, 16/24 bars off of each i think) - i mean it's dj friendly and that's fine but i think it pays to "radio edit" your tracks a bit for NGADM's sake.
drums don't cut through over the reese enough - especially the kick. i think the reese just rips a bit too hard haha

good shit!

DEM0NW0LF responds:

Thanks midi ! Part of the challenge in making this one was trying to nail a good 64 bar drop (well, two of them) so cutting the length down wouldn't feel right, you know ?

Anyway, I'm glad you like it !

I like the tension at the beginning. Has a dark cinematic vibe. It’s a little slow to progress, but I like the sense of climax throughout the first minute and a half or so. I think you overused the reverse crashes a bit, as well as that transition with the ping-pong floaty synth at 1:08 (and other places). The production quality is impressive here, and the drop at 1:29 has a great frantic energy about it. Perhaps I would’ve liked to see you better utilize the high end of the frequency range from 1:30 - 3:00, though. I also think that section dragged on for way too long. In the second half of this piece, there’s not much in the way of new content, and I didn’t think the piece needed to be over 6 minutes long. It’s also rather lacking on melodic content. The drum fills and sound design details of the piece are quite impressive, though. Killer atmosphere and mood. Keep at it, Demon-Wolf! ;)
