Reviews for "Vestavia Hills"

Needs to have a button to swap weapons, since the mouse is used for aiming, it's possible to accidentally move the mouse off the game screen and then when you scroll it scrolls the actual page and messes up your vision on the game.

Also, is there a button to reload? The info on the rifle I have says that I have 30 rounds and a reserve of 90, but no apparent way to reload once the 30 are used up.

Other than that, a lot of fun. I've always enjoyed top down shooters, and this one is done pretty well. Would give 4/5, but dropped half a star for simple but impactful interface issues that I've already discussed.

MD-Wade responds:

Hi, you can now use the number row to swap weapons! Also, "R" is the button to reload. :)
Thank you for playing!

It's great for a start, a lot to improve though.

The intro is really long, should be shorter imo.

I liked the combat, it feels nice and responsive. Gun animations should be made to not loop though - when you shoot with the revolver, the firing animation plays 2 or 3 times.

Right now the game is quite repetitive and got boring after the 5th wave. Maybe add more different enemies, or more locations? Perhaps a campaign later on.

Agreed with the review below, you could get your own assets. There's a lot of free game art online, just google "free game art". Or at least you should ask Dennaton if you can use their sprites.

Just like the original Hotline Miami 1&2, the game goes into slow-mo if the framerate drops, any way you could fix that?

Also, did you make the level with HM2's editor? I suggest putting edges at doorways, at least where there's a change of floor type.

All in all, it's a good start. Mechanically the game feels nice. Looking forward to further updates.

MD-Wade responds:

Hi,

the intro being long is as a result of needing to get across information that players didn't seem to read from the descriptions or instructions. I'd love to be able to make a tutorial and such that explains everything better once I've got time to do so. The gun animation loop is a bug I just introduced, it seems. It fixed the bug where the melee attacking animations didn't play but I didn't notice that. Gonna try to fix that! As for the art, I've reached out to Dennaton (both Jonatan and Dennis) several times over the past few months and have never gotten word from them. We are in the process of redoing the art, but this is a passion project and we are operating on a $0 budget. The map was made by hand in the GameMaker room editor -- I'll try to tweak it some to make it more aesthetically pleasing :)

Thank you for playing and for the feedback!

Wow intense

First of all this was an amazing top view game and you have some great skills like the fighting and move about with the game What a fantastic game you have made here not only did you push some sprites but you made those sprite details shine and sparkle and making the game itself have some awesome and fresh gameplay I really love the push on the sprite element here making this a fun game and looks like you pushed the limits on the gameplay action too and this was a fun and refreshing game here so nice work on this game

~X~

Plays like shit on a laptop, but as far as I can tell the AI is dumb as bricks.

MD-Wade responds:

If you're playing on Windows, there's a Windows version available that generally runs much better than the web version! It's available at https://md-wade.itch.io/vestavia-hills
