Reviews for "Starving Artist"

I thought this was cool - I like how the paint comes out on the canvas and the music is pretty chill. Had some Paspartou vibes!

I'd love to know how you rank the paintings or if its random?

jontopielski responds:

The paintings are ranked based on the current events of that day, which can be found by clicking the "News" button. For example, if the headlines suggest high cloud coverage or chaos, filling the canvas makes your painting sell for more. Or if there are many mentions of a specific color or theme, using those colors will help the paintings sell for more.

I made the source code public so you could see where the game is actually going through the canvas array and averaging things like the amount of canvas coverage and the average RGB / HSV values: https://github.com/pyrecraft/starving-artist/blob/master/SaleLogic.gd#L156

And then based on the "criteria" which is determined from the news stories, the final payout / score is calculated: https://github.com/pyrecraft/starving-artist/blob/master/SaleLogic.gd#L46

Ridiculously underrated game. I'd say 2/3's of the paintings I made based on available news articles sold for decent money. I made over $300 on one, and I finished the game at $991. Would have had 1K, but I had a painting sell for $0. I'm not sure how smart your code is, but it's fairly realistic.

What I didn't understand was the different criteria between the grades and the selling price. I did get a number of B's and a few C's, but several painting I had sold for hundreds, only to be graded a D or F.

jontopielski responds:

Hey thanks, appreciate the kind words! I posted the general painting sale logic in the comments below if you’re interested. As far as the sale price, I wanted paintings to have a generally higher max sale price as the days go on, to emulate the artist’s work being worth more the more he/she puts out and sells.

I had fun painting this the game :)

I loved the experience in this game. I want a longer version or a update.

Good :D
