Reviews for "You Broke the Game"

“You Broke The Game” is good, pretty good.

The “broken game” features sweet graphics and easy-to-play gameplay. And of course the plot twist about fixing by us the corruption disabling the start of this game, which is the only thing that we can do in this work.

For those who loves collecting the medals on Newgrounds, we could easily get four for completing the stages by putting key, apple, potion and goblet in the altars. For the last three medals, we need to put the huge patience and focus on collecting all 134 coins from every stage, doing the speedrun less than three minutes and being cautious for the enemies. Thank God the cloud is not against us.

Everything is good about “You Broke The Game”. Unless there is a one problem. I don't know it was done in purpose or not, but I really would like to see the counters showing did I ended this game with no kills and the time for the medal of speedrun's condition or on the contrary. In my opinion, the best solutions for those my afterthoughts will be put the reset option, because I hate when I'm keeping refreshing everytime the page for getting the achievements and put the counters of kills and time overall (for example) after beating the game for the first time and having the desire for getting all of these medals.

Yes, it is a very short game. Sadly. For pure curiosity, I really wish for being in the mind of programmer or artist, I don't know from who the first glimmers of concept came, and I want to know do they had only the thoughts of four stages including sub-stages between the main ones, or the thoughts of many, many stages. In other words, there is a small number of levels for me in this game, but that's okay.

I won't cling to the graphics, because they are like in old school, 8-bit games. Beautiful, vivid, accurate. Just lovely beautiful. That's all about the important thing in every game — it's all about the visualization. But... The other disgusts which I haven't mentioned above are about rats that runs sometimes odd and about the sound details, or maybe not... Who knows...

In summary, “You Broke The Game” is good. You can play, you can fascinate about graphics, you can take a challenge, you can grumble, you can “fix this game”. 4 out of 5 stars is equitable score for this “corrupted game”. A full recommendation from me and nothing else to say.

Jeez, this is my first ever review on Newgrounds after looking on this page for 5-6 years. What a shame.

Problem: the game doesn't start and skips to the credits . . . . . ok

While I love the concept of the game, I think it would be funnier if it weren't in the title. Nonetheless, it's a solid platformer. Though there are a lot of things that are just slightly off, namely:
- I frequently mistook "W" as jump, which is a shame as I never needed to look up.
- Furthermore, the difference between a short & long jump is so hard to notice that I only found out about it afterwards via the description.
- Why does the creature that helps me have the same sprite as an enemy? It feels unfair that I died from its attack which I didn't anticipate.
- Why does the timer keep running when I'm outside the game? I was typing feedback.
- Also, I wouldn't reset the timer per level or upon death, since you only count the total time anyways.
- Furthermore, it feels unfair that the timer is running during the first cutscenes.
- It also feels off that there is no "talking" sound effect during cutscenes. Anything would be fine, as long as you imply there's actual sound.
- Rats generally run away from you, but sometimes towards you which feels inconsistent.
- It's unclear where exactly certain enemies like the hedgehogs turn around. I would slow them down before turning, as this also feels more lifelike.
- I love the cloud, but it feels very unsatisfying that you can collide with its side. Just let me bounce up when I touch it, or at least go through it.
- The second-last room has 2 routes that both seem impossible. I glitched my way through it.

Anyways, hope this helps.

Thanks for the fair feedback! The game was made in 72 hours, so there are many issues like that that differ this game from a regular game.

Okay...

Let's see...

Influences - Mario, Plants vs Zombies, sound FX Sonic & Knuckles.

I like it. I went through it 1 go without dying. The game is challenging a bit.

The game style also reminded me of some games I used to play, back in the day. Good times, good days. The only thing I don't quite seem to like is that it is short.

Overall good piece!

i like this game!
