Reviews for "3 AM Trip"

sid?

I really enjoy the video game/8-bit(ish) sounds in this track, would've like to hear the beats be more prominent and destructive, but the main riff is good enough to make me want to listen again. good stuff, and thanks for the review.

great feedback, and thanks.

Interesting!

I like the atmosphere of this track. Lots of original and semi-catchy stuff going on, it reveals more on replay which is always a plus in my book. You seem to know your way around using FX pretty well.

There are some structural things you could improve on. What I always try to do when making electronica (which I won't claim to be excellent at, by the way) is see how I can make it 'peak' as much as possible, this generally means making a (few) pattern(s) where everything is present - full bass, full drums, a wide range of frequencies, intertwining melodies and chords - to potentially blow the listener away.

What I think ails this track a bit, is that it seems like you came up with all the parts "on the fly", which makes the song flow very well, but lack a general direction from beginning to end. Some of the elements, like the piano, are a bit overused, while other elements fall behind. The drums for example feel like they could gain much more body.

My advice would be to take the time to figure out all the elements you are going to use, get to know them, determine their impact on the listener, and then decide how you are going to 'build' the track. One of the most difficult parts about making music, or any kind of art, is to keep a fresh ear (or eye), as if you are experiencing the piece for the first time.

I think we can expect excellent things from you, just keep at it, you show a lot of talent already.

4/5

thanks a lot for the great review, i'd rather see one like this than 10's across the boards anyday, feedback is what i'm trying to get at putting it on here, you gave some really helpful hints

How's it goin' b9h?

First off, I kind of like that nintendo feel to the beginning. The extra sounds running along in the background is nice. IT really sets the tone to it.

The song as a whole felt like a giant jumble of ideas into one. You have soooo many different melodies jumping out at you in here. Try to limit yourself because this is just too much for me. It really didn't "go anywhere".

The piano was a bit overplayed. I felt like the song revolved around that piano.

The beat!! omg the beat... I need it to be more IN MY FACE OVERTHETOP OMGWTF kind of thing. lol. Your beat was awesome, I just need it to stand out more.

Anyways, GREAT JOB just limit the melodies you use. Plan it out before you sit down. etc.

Nice synths.

I loved your synths, but I felt like some instruments could have used some tweaking; mainly the piano. I can't quite put my finger on what it is about the piano that didn't work for me - it just sounded too fake I guess.

I liked your chords because they were not typical at all. Actually, they were quite strange.

I thought you could have used some heavier drums at points. It really might have added a nice effect.

Nice sound effects, too. Good job overall.

baller9hundred responds:

thats a good take on the piano, i actually used a plugin which is purposely slightly detuned to add to the effect, that's probably what you're hearing. Thanks for the ffedback, i'm glad you like it.
