Reviews for "Tales Of Luka: Mating Season"

Never thought I'd see anything like this. Might not be for me but good work ^-^

why is this in the games section? what part of any of this is a game? i really dislike when i go into a specific section of a site expecting a specific type of content, and instead get something that is not supposed to be there.
if it is NOT a game, do not post it in the GAMES section

other than that the art is nice at least, not a huge minecraft fan though so no idea on who Luka is meant to be

if this was in a place appropriate for the content involved i would give you 5 stars, but since this isn't the right place for it i can only give a mid score

JoSilver responds:

This is not a movie, This not something you can passively watch, you cannot just click play and forget about it. The game section here on Newgrounds is meant for anything with interactivity.
For example the Newgrounds Sketchbook tour is in the game section but it's not a game. https://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/530734

So next time before you get all UPITY about whether something is categorized wrong... DON'T

meh, earlier version looked better imo. Maybe make two different submissions, one for these new animations/photos and one for the OG ones?

JoSilver responds:

I debated with myself on whether or not to make this a new submission or not. I think the old one looks good, but it wasn't about that for me. The final look and feel and style of Luka and her world is something I've dedicated a lot of time and effort in to nailing down. I wanted this to reflect the final look rather than the old one. I am sorry if you like the old look better but this new design and style is more expressive, grounded and easy to render.

With all that said the old version is still available for download on itch.io for free if you prefer.

I feel like you could make a game out of this, but this is really just an interactive gallery. The art style is unique and surprisingly kinda works in its own strange way, but without any context or interactivity, you might as well have just made a video.

EDIT: To answer this part of your response: "I had made some art and I wanted to display it, what better way than with a gallery. And If I did make this a video, it would just be a video of still frames which is in my opinion even more underwhelming."

I would have posted the still frame art to the Art section, and edit the animated portions together and post them to the Movies section. The latter you could even crosspost to like PornHub or something for additional exposure. My point is that I don't really see that posting an interactive gallery in the Games section under "Simulation - Dating" is the best way to reach an audience looking for this sort of content. I understand that it might be valuable to you as an artist to have all of this similarly-themed content in one convenient location like a portfolio. But when you post something in the Games section under the "Simulation - Dating" genre, I'm going to expect a dating sim game and criticize it accordingly. I hope that helps you understand my reasoning for my criticism.

JoSilver responds:

I never understand why people get so upset over the fact that it's a gallery and not a full game. it's not "really just an interactive gallery", That's exactly what I made, An interactive gallery. That was my intention. I had made some art and I wanted to display it, what better way than with a gallery. And If I did make this a video, it would just be a video of still frames which is in my opinion even more underwhelming.

Now do not misunderstand me, I agree that context and more interactivity can really make this something more and I've done that in the past with other galleries I made, But that was not my intention with this piece.

I like my work to criticized over what it is rather than what is not. If your critique is that the fundamental concept is flawed, I'll accept that. But not that it should be something else instead. What I meant for people to view and judge was my art and honestly I don't see why this is not the best way to present to an audience.

Edit: The reason I made this into a gallery and not just posted this in the art portal, is because it allows me the ability to create an atmosphere for my work with sound and music (There is no music in this one but in the future I could use music)

If you can't appreciate that aspect about it this just isn't for you. I'll give you that this isn't a dating sim... but I'm not changing the genre until Newgrounds gets a Gallery genre.

Bruh it does not work for me
