Once again, I find myself deeply engaged in a porn game, and adding another Hentai review to my review list. I don't regret it, though, maybe I really am a pervert after all.
See, the thing is, there is a certain charm to this game that I rarely see in erotic visual novels. Maybe it's due to it being set in Barcelona, and the way landmarks of the city are shown as the characters commute from one place to another. Maybe it's the quirky "witch" character that is decidedly more full of personality than the average visual novel goth. Maybe it's both of those things and more. The fact that it doesn't attempt to emulate the cliché style of Japanese visual novels may have something to do with that as well.
In the shoes of a young college man, the game starts with you having to pick between witnessing, stopping, or partaking in a cowardly rape perpetrated by a guy who was, until then, your best friend. After that, a mysterious curse afflicts the perpetrator, and things start getting, well, rather conflictuous. I only explored the scenario in which you stop him, so I have no idea what happens on the other two, but I assume all of them follow more or less the same overall structure.
I don't wish to spoil much, but I'm particularly curious about the backstory of Neus. She must be hiding a ton of bizarre secrets that have yet to be revealed in later updates of the game, and I'm eager to find them out. Overall, this game has a pretty good story, while not the best I've ever seen.
If you're here for fap material, my recommendation depends on how patient you are. You have to gradually get to know the girls, like in most dating sims, to get to the scenes. If you're willing to do things gradually, you'll be delighted to know that the scenes are nicely animated, and the graphical style is really good, conveying not only genitalias and bodies, but also facial expressions and interactions.
After playing so many visual novels set in Japanese high schools or, more to the point, westerners' idea of Japanese high schools, not taking place in Japan is something I'm willing to count as a massive plus, but even ignoring that, there's a lot to like about Pact with a Witch. I recommend it to Hentai visual novel fans, and fans of interesting erotic stories in general. I'm eagerly awaiting the conclusion of the story.
Oh, also, the music is not annoying like in most visual novels I've played. So there's that as well, just in case it's something you're concerned about.
