Reviews for "Labyrneath II"

I vaguely remember the first part and it was full out of coincidence that I was browsing the frontpage again and seeing this game. Although I liked the first game more (at least of what I remembered), this one was also very good. The controls were smooth, art was great, the sound effects were really fitting, and every element of the game was self-explaining with a little something to begin with. The controls were so easy that you didn't even need to damage enemies and only had left/right, jump and down. Not even something like crouching overcomplicated the game. It was really easy to grasp, and the level design was really great. A saving point every so often, and you really did something out of the elements you had, and you really invented some great elements with the few controls you had. There were too many clever designs I could recall right now, but I especially liked the switches, and the bomb-down bugs. Both together a good balance between logic and skill elements in the game. Even the bosses were placed in a good part of the game and had a great design and varying gameplay. What I also liked was the funny short story at the end. And I also liked that it didn't have a story at the beginning. That's a great mixture I haven't thought of yet. So even for "just" a platformer, which isn't a new concept in itself, it was very well executed.

Some minor improvement suggestions:
- When you die, the character shouldn't be able to move one single pixel. Every time I died, I always got my hopes up for a fraction of a second, because I could still control my character. But then it warped back to the last checkpoint.
- Although the graphics was pixel art with not so many sprites and not so complex animation, the game sometimes lagged noticeably on my computer. Admittedly, it's not the newest one, but a pixel graphics game in a browser should run smoothly.
- At one of the the first levels with the three parallel moving platforms, the last saving point was too far away from the difficult part. It was somehow frustrating to always just stand there again and again for a couple of seconds doing nothing, until the challenging part appeared, and you would probably die.
- More bomb-down bugs! And respawn them when I also respawn myself. It made some passages too easy.
- Sometimes the music was much too loud in comparison to the sound effects. Had to turn my boxes off at some points.

This game would be perfect for having enemies that alter the properties of the character. Something like the old Wario games.

Damn, this is a nice challenging platformer. I like it!
